Beva Myers Ensey

Beva Myers Ensey, 93, of Malvern passed away April 2, 2011, in Benton.
She was born Aug. 20, 1917, in Dallas County to the late Dick and Mary (Dalton) Myers.
She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist in Malvern, and had worked in a furniture factory.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Ralph, Thomas, Doyle and Roscoe Myers; and four sisters, Ethel Lawrence, Earnestine Walker, Jamie Howell and Juanita Givens.

Billy Dee Nabors

Billy Dee Nabors, 77, of Paron passed away April 3, 2011.
He was born April 22, 1933, in Greenbrier to the late Harold Clarence and Loy Lou (Breeding) Nabors.
Mr. Nabors was a retired carpenter, a member of North Fork Missionary Baptist Church of Paron, a member of Carpenter’s Local Union 690 of Little Rock, Boy Scouts of America Ouachita Area Council, Paron Masonic Lodge 309, and Congo Masonic Lodge 743.

Irene Todd

Irene Todd, 89, of Benton passed away April 2, 2011, in Benton.
She was born May 22, 1921, in Morrilton to the late Arthur and Bertie (Dickson) Williams.
She was a homemaker and wonderful mother, grandmother and friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lynn Todd; and two grandchildren.
Survivors include one daughter, Betty T. Gipson of Benton; two sons, Jack L. Todd of Benton and Ed A. Todd of Jacksonville; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her friend and confidant, Ray Roth of Benton; and other relatives and friends.

John Wayne McGehee

John Wayne McGehee, 68, of Benton passed away April 2, 2011.
He was a member of Oak Park Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Pearl Faver; and stepfather, John Faver.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine McGehee; stepchildren, Steve Landers of Benton and Rick Landers of Little Rock; stepgrandchildren, Farra Cassidy (Jim) of Oxford, Miss., and Cayce Landers (Lendy) of Benton; five great- grandchildren; and many others who all loved him and will miss him dearly.

Lady Hornet sets new school record

The Bryant Lady Hornets finished in fifth place Friday night at the Russellville Cyclone Relays.

Bryant scored 61 points to finish behind team champion Lake Hamilton (80 points), North Little Rock (78), Fort Smith Northside (72) and Cabot (72). In all, 23 schools competed.

Highlighting the Lady Hornets’ performance was sophomore Alexis Royal, who scored a team high 30 points. Royal set a new Bryant school record with her winning leap in the triple jump. 

Hornets finish 7th at Cyclone Relays

The Bryant Hornets earned a seventh-place finish in the Cyclone Relays at Russellville Friday, earning 47.5 points in the 20-team field.

Fort Smith Southside won the event. 

Troy Smith was the leading scorer for the Hornets, placing third in the high jump (6 feet), fourth in the 300-meter hurdles (41.99 seconds) and sixth in the 110-meter high hurdles (16.28). 

Coach Steve Oury said Smith "has really come on this year in the hurdle races. Coach Keith Dale does a great job working with all of our hurdlers, and Troy has worked extremely hard."

Don Allen Sadler

Don Allen Sadler, 70, of Bauxite died March 31, 2011 at Saline Memorial Hospital.
He was born August 15, 1940 to the late Huey Kagler and Velma Pauline “Bette” Sadler.
He graduated from Bauxite High School and married his high school sweetheart, Glenda Magby. Together they raised four children and in January 2010 celebrated fifty years of marriage. He spent his working career in the Face Veneer Industry where he learned the business from the ground up and later retired from Woodlast.

Ernest “Dick” Melton

Ernest “Dick” Melton, 68, of Benton passed away on March 26, 2011. He was born on February 24, 1943 to the late Herbert and Zona Melton in Little Rock.
Dick enjoyed being outdoors whether hunting, fishing or camping. His most treasured memories are times spent with his family by his side. Dick was a 49 year member of I.B.E.W. Local Union 295. He retired after 39 years while serving as the Assistant Business Manager. He was a Mason at Mary Williams Lodge #307 and attended Cornerstone Church of the Nazarene.
