Hornets finish 7th at Cyclone Relays

April 4, 2011

The Bryant Hornets earned a seventh-place finish in the Cyclone Relays at Russellville Friday, earning 47.5 points in the 20-team field.

Fort Smith Southside won the event.

Troy Smith was the leading scorer for the Hornets, placing third in the high jump (6 feet), fourth in the 300-meter hurdles (41.99 seconds) and sixth in the 110-meter high hurdles (16.28).

Coach Steve Oury said Smith "has really come on this year in the hurdle races. Coach Keith Dale does a great job working with all of our hurdlers, and Troy has worked extremely hard."

BRENT DAVIS/Resident Boomer: There’s a time machine under mom’s house

April 4, 2011

Jules Vern imagined a wildly elaborate machine. Physicists theorize with numbers. Engineers tinker with plans. They each may have taken a different approach to the same quest but they all shared the same result. Nothing. Zilch. Zero. Nada. The problem was that they were looking in the wrong place. But I know where to find what they all seek.

All I could remember when I wrote the prior piece was that the movie house had a buff brick exterior and that it was near the big Sears & Roebuck store in that part of the city.
