Conway defeats Bryant for first title

May 23, 2011

CONWAY — The Conway Wampus Cats won their first 7A State Title since 1989 by defeating the Bryant Hornets Sunday 12-3 in seven innings thanks to a complete game by tournament MVP Connor McClain.
“It feels awesome and we had a great time,” Conway head coach Noel Boucher said. “This is our sixth time to be here and a couple of bounces here or there, things would have been different.
“I’m just real pleased with the effort tonight.”
Conway scored seven runs in the top of the second.

HOLLENBECK: Donkey that inspired compassion now tends wounded warriors

Sometimes the lowliest of creatures can bring out the best in humans.
Case in point: A donkey from a foreign land.
The one that caught my attention recently started out life in Iraq, but recently has become a resident of this county.
I read the Associated Press account with not just a few tears.
This was a touching story of Smoke, a donkey, who became a friend and mascot to a group of U.S. Marines living in a province in Iraq nearly three years ago.
Unfortunately, because of bureaucratic red tape, the donkey had to be left behind.

HAHN: Conway lake monster: believable or not believable?

May 23, 2011

Work was started in the late 1940s and by the time Lake Conway was stocked with fish and boaters were beginning to spend time on its waters, rumors of the “Lake Conway monster” began to circulate through the town.
