It has been said that familiarity breeds contempt. Once we become accustomed to the “new, bright and shiny,” we may come to view that which held our praise before as being “old, dull and uninteresting.” This is true with most things and, being the humans we are, it is at times inevitable. What we must guard against is the need to become bitter as a result.
We can look all around and see the evidence of this unfortunate practice.

Leifeste: Giving a community newspaper back to the community

In June of 2010, I had a life-changing decision to make not only for myself and my husband, but also for the future of The Saline Courier. As vice president of Horizon Publications Inc., the Courier had been one of the newspapers whose publisher reported directly to me for approximately two years. During that time I had made numerous visits to Benton to meet with the staff and evaluate the health of the Courier as a business as well as a community media outlet. It was broken on both accounts.

Glen Rose advances to regional final

Glen Rose advanced to the 3A Region 2 Tournament final Saturday with a 4-3 extra inning win over Cutter-Morning Star.
The Lady Beavers, the tournament No. 3 seed, will face No. 1 seed Rosebud t 5 p.m. Monday at Harding Academy in Searcy.
With a win, Glen Rose will earn a No. 1 seed in the state tournament beginning Friday in Prescott. By winning Friday, the Lady Beavers already earned a spot in the state tournament, and winning Saturday earned them at least a No. 2 spot.
