BENTON — The Benton High School Summer baseball team got a taste of what it is like to play baseball for a living. With most of the team having played nearly five days straight, including shortstop Brooks Balisterri, and a bullpen and rotation burned up, it was up to pitcher Matthew Krikorian to last as long as possible in Tuesday’s game against Catholic High School.
Having already defeated North Little Rock 3-1 in the first game after Balisterri pitched a complete game, the Benton Panthers were able to hold off a 6th inning rally to defeat Catholic 8-7.
Franklin “Frank” Filmore Newcomb, 89, of North Little Rock, formerly of Scott and Bryant, died Sunday, June 12. He was born August 21, 1921, in Bigelow to Cora and William Newcomb.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, sister and wife, Juanita. He is survived by his son, Randall and wife, Cindy of North Little Rock; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister.
He was a World War II veteran and a member of All Souls Church in Scott and Indian Springs Baptist Church in Bryant.
