JoAnn Montalvo, 69, of Benton died Tuesday, July 12. She was born February 13, 1942, in Bauxite. She attended grade school at Bauxite and graduated from Mt. St. Maryâ€™s in Little Rock in 1960. JoAnn was an occupational therapist and a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Benton. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe E. and Lupe Montalvo.
Â Survivors include three brothers, Henry, Manuel and Tony, and three sisters, Olga, Angeline Blanche, and Mary Alice.
Densel W. Dyer, 81, of Benton passed away on July 10, with his family by his side.Â Densel was born on July 28, 1929, to the late, Charles and Maude Dyer in Little Rock.Â He retired from Alcoa after 33 years. He was a member of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church for 58 years and a member of the Kate Wright Sunday school class.Â Densel was a very loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.Â He loved wood carving, fishing and hunting.Â Being with his family was his most treasured times.
Charles â€śCharleyâ€ť Morris Edmonson, 62, of Benton, passed away Monday, July 11. He was born February 1, 1949, in Bauxite.Â Charley retired as a First Sgt. from the U.S. Army, then worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 20 years, until his retirement in February.Â He was a member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church where he served as deacon.Â Charley was preceded in death by his parents, Lofton and Corene Edmonson, and two brothers, Wayne Edward Edmonson and Ronald Morgan Edmonson.
BENTON â€” Leading by one run in the bottom of the sixth, Benton McClendonâ€™s Appliance Senior Legion baseball team managed to plate two more runs to take a 10-7 lead over Jacksonville.
Corky Welch was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and, after a passed ball, was able to move to second. A balk, a walk to Ryan Besancon and a sacrifice bunt by Austin Hicks got the runners into scoring position.
Welch later scored on a wild pitch and, with two outs, Ryan Bewley picked up his second hit of the night with an RBI single to plate Bescancon.
