Ulysses Glen “Butch” Hardwick, 74, of milemarker 123 in Bryant, went to be with our God in Heaven on Friday, Aug. 19.Â
He was born March 9, 1937, in Sasakwa, Okla., to Guy and Lucille Hardwick and was the second oldest of four children. In his early adult years he served in the U.S. Navy where he played baseball.
From the Navy, he was scouted to play Triple A Ball for the then Kansas City Athletics (now the Oakland Athletics).
Harold “Lacy” Landers, 84, of Benton passed away Friday, Aug. 20, in Bryant.
He was born June 28, 1927, in Benton to the late Virgil and Josie Landers.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers and sisters, Ralph Landers, Vera Landers Lorenzo, Watt Landers, Carl Landers, Lucy Landers Crawford and Bob Landers; and a granddaughter, Lorie Black.
The Benton Panthers kicked their season off Friday with their annual Maroon and Gray game at C.W. Lewis Stadium. With packed house on one side of the field and a partially packed side on the other, one would think it was a regular season football game. Too bad it was not. It was just a scrimmage.
