Susie Everett has maintained a love and respect for Ouachita Baptist University since she was a student there in the mid-1970s.
Though she obtained her nursing degree from University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, she earned her basic college credits during her two and a half years at OBU and now she's helping the school in an advisory capacity.
Everett, who spreads her talents and leadership among many area groups and agencies, is one of the four newest members of the OBU Board of Trustees.
An orange safety vest and a friendly wave is all most people know of "The Can Man." He could be seen nearly every day along the roadside on the southwest part of Benton in search of aluminum. His wave became a regular part of his daily routine for commuters merging onto I-30 near the 114 exit. However, the Can Man has been conspicuous in his absence over the last few months.
The Saline Courier caught up with this familiar face recently and here is his story.
His name is Dotsey Neal. He is 75-years-old. His brother, George Neal, is 78 and spoke for Dotsey during the interview.
The Bauxite Lady Miners improved to 2-0 in the 7-4A conference with a 49-44 victory over the Nashville Lady Scrappers on Friday night at Fred Dawson Gym in Bauxite.
â€śIt was a good game,â€ť Bauxite Coach Josh Harrison said. â€śIt was closely contested. They jumped on us early.â€ť
The Lady Miners (9-3, 2-0) scored the first two baskets of the game, but the Lady Scrappers ended up taking a 13-6 lead after the first quarter.
Bauxite picked up the defense to take a 20-17 halftime lead.
The majority of tax collections from the city's 1.5 percent Advertising and Promotion Commission tax in 2012 will be dedicated toward construction of an events center in Benton.
On Thursday night the A&P Commission made that decision as part of the process of finalizing its 2012 operating budget.
The commission voted to dedicate 96.5 percent of revenue from the A&P tax toward construction of the events center with the remaining 3.5 percent to be allocated for administrative costs.
