Community, family and friends celebrate the life of Drew Melton

Her family described her as "determined." Her friends described her as "someone who lights up any room she enters." Those that met her once, left knowing that they had just met a truly kind young woman. Following her tragic death in an automobile accident in the early morning hours of Nov. 21, a community came to consider her family.

Davey Lee Ramsey Sr.

Davey Lee Ramsey Sr, 81, of Benton, passed away Thursday, November 22.  He was born April 24, 1931 in Saline County.  Mr. Ramsey was retired from Reynolds Metal and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.  He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he was a Deacon for 45 years. 
Mr. Ramsey was preceded in death by his parents, H.C. “Tonce” and Lorene Ramsey and a sister, Gwendolyn “Snooks” Rhoades.

Teresa Lynn Scarborough

Teresa Lynn Scarborough, 38, of Fayetteville passed away Tuesday, November 20, in Fayetteville. She was born November 5, 1974 in Pompano Beach, Florida the daughter of Charles Howard and Rhoda Parker Stroud. She attended Family Baptist Church in Springdale and worked in Child Care.

Velma Pauline Jones Daugherty

Velma Pauline Jones Daugherty died on Saturday, Nov. 24 at Saline Memorial Hospital in Benton after suffering a stroke Friday.
She was 95 years old.
Pauline was born Jan. 23, 1917, in Sayre, in Ouachita County, the daughter of the late Jewell Hudson Jones and Jewel Ann Pearce Jones.
The family moved to Bauxite when Pauline was about 4 years old.
Pauline met her future husband, Warren Kelley "Doc" Daugherty at a church revival in Bauxite. They were married on July 30, 1933. Doc was the love of her life, and when he died on Dec. 2, 1995, they had been married for 62 years.

Benton approves power contract that saves 30% on wholesale rate

Benton City Council met a critical deadline Monday night in approving a new power supply agreement that will result in significant savings to the city while ensuring delivery of electrical power to Benton Utilities customers for years to come.
All of the nine aldermen in attendance voted for the measure that has been under negotiation for some time. Alderman Joe Lee Richards was not present, so his vote will be recorded as an automatic "no" to Alderman Doug Stracener's motions for approval.
