Maurine A. Mills, 99, of Benton, passed away Wednesday, November 21. She was born September 7, 1913 in Haskell. Mrs. Mills retired from the Arkansas Health Care Center and a member of Northside Church of Christ.Â
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Lola Atchison; husband, Roy E. Mills; brother, Lester Atchison and three sisters, Ethel Mitchel, Bessie Lee Burnett and Vida Westbrook.
Tony Allen Waters, 49, of Paron went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 21. He was born January 7, 1963 in Little Rock. Tony was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved the outdoors. His wonderful personality and great sense of humor will be greatly missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bobby Waters and brother, Wendall Waters.
Debbie Griffith Crook, 52 of Avilla, went to be with the Lord on November 20. Debbie was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She was a people person and was loved by many.
She is preceded in death by her parents; Eugene and Juanita Presson, one brother; James, and her first husband; Ralph Griffith.
She is survived by her husband; Rick Crook, three sons; Ricky Griffith and wife, Amber, Randy Griffith and Cody Crook of Alexander.
Drew Nicole Melton, 17, of Benton, passed from this life on November 21. She was born March 22, 1995 in Hot Springs, to Fred “Ted” Melton and Susan Melton Jacobs. Drew was a senior at Benton High School and worked at Arkansas Bone and Joint in Bryant. She loved playing all sports, including Golf, Softball, (short stop extra ordinair), Volley Ball, Basketball and her dream, to be on a Swim Team. Her plans were to attended University of Arkansas at Fayetteville in the fall.

The Benton Panthers got off to their second consecutive 8-0 scoring start in defeating the Searcy Lions 59-39 at Benton Arena on Tuesday night. The Panthers also got off to an 8-0 start in their 68-43 win against Beebe in the first game of the year last week.
Three members of the Arkansas Health Center maintenance staff agreed to jump off the pier into the AHC pond if fellow employees donated at least $300 to the Saline County Toy Run. Once the goal was reached, a fourth employee promised to jump if another $100 was raised.
The employees donated $400, and Tuesday afternoon the staff held the men to their promise. Chuck Pearson, Fred Santoff, David Webb and Stanley Dempsey, fully clothed, jumped into the murky pond. Members of the Haskell Fire Department attended the event to ensure the safety of the jumpers.

As a child of older parents growing up in Colorado, my mom and dad never really liked the cold. After my father's retirement, they became "snowbirds" and moved to Arizona. With my three brothers living in different states, I was a young adult on my own, so I was very excited when my boyfriend at the time asked me to join his parents for Thanksgiving.
