GREENBRIER Â¬â€“ The Benton Lady Panthers made it to the finals of the Battle at the Brier, but fell 30-28 in a defensive battle to the Rogers Heritage Lady War Eagles on Saturday night. Benton led the whole game until Lacey Murray hit a 3-pointer to tie it at 28-apiece and Brittany Ward hit the game-winner with five seconds remaining, while Benton could not get a shot off in the end.
CARLISLE - With the first third of the season on the books, the Harmony Grove Lady Cardinals were sitting in a nice spot heading into Christmas break. With a 6-4 overall record and a 2-1 showing in 5-3A conference play, the Lady Cardinals hit the court once again on Friday in the Carlisle Holiday Classic. Coming off of back-to-back conference wins over Fountain Lake and Episcopal, the Lady Cardinals had a little bit of a setback when they met England on Friday, falling in a close match 35-30.
MOUNTAIN HOME â€“ Junior forward Josh Bowling helped give the Benton Panthers a turkey as far as winning their third consecutive tournament championship when they defeated the Little Rock Episcopal Wildcats 65-47 on Saturday in the finals of the Mountain Home Tournament. Bowling scored 25 points and grabbed 15 rebounds as the Panthersâ€™ size netted the victory after being down by 10 points at the half.
FORT SMITH â€“ After losing to Texas High 76-66 in the second round of the Coca Cola Classic in Fort Smith on Friday, the Bryant Hornets salvaged a 1-2 showing in the tourney with a 56-49 win over Subiaco Academy on Saturday afternoon.
â€śWe were aggressive and got to the foul line, so that was good,â€ť Bryant Coach Mike Abrahamson said. â€śWe shot the ball a little bit better from the outside, which really helps. We defended a little bit better than we had been.â€ť
The Hornets (11-3) lost to the No. 1 team in the state North Little Rock in the first round and to Texas High in Round 2.
