Churches Joint Council on Human Needs volunteers focus year-round on helping alleviate hunger in the local area.
As part of the agency's mission, area groups and individuals conduct food drives and fundraising projects throughout the year to help meet this ever-growing need, volunteers say.
There are times, however, when the charitable agencies themselves have needs and this was the case recently with CJCOHN.
The agency's food storage facility was in serious need of renovation and several groups and individuals provided the funding needed to solve this problem, volunteers said.
BENTON – The Lady Panthers did something Saturday that no other Benton High School softball team had completed in a very long time. After getting past Springdale Harber in the first round of the Bootsie Gordon Tournament in Benton, the Lady Panthers beat Dardanelle 6-0 and Nashville 7-0 to advance to the finals against Greenbrier. After a crazy homerun call early in the game, the Lady Panthers prevailed to beat Greenbrier 12-2 to become tournament champions.

A juvenile, Paxton Griffith, who was reported as a runaway recently out of our department has been located and is safe. Thank you for your help in trying locate him.
BENTON - It was a scoreless game through four innings, but the Benton Panthers came away with a 5-0 victory over the Monticello Billies Friday night in Benton. Junior left-handed started Justin Vincent gave up one hit, a double in the second inning, and retired the last 13 batters he faced. The Panthers retired the last 16 batters of the game.
“He did a great job,” Benton Coach Mark Balisterri said of Vincent.
