William J. Kidd

March 5, 2012

William J. Kidd, 85, of Bauxite passed away Friday, March 2.  He was born Oct. 19, 1926, in the Shaw community to the late Moses and Annie Stone Kidd.
William served in the Army during World War II, Korean Conflict and Vietnam, retiring with the rank of major. 
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bettie Kidd; his brother, Gean Kidd; and a sister, Mary Jane Allinson.

Paul “Scotty” Beard

Paul “Scotty” Beard, 49, of Traskwood passed away Wednesday, Feb. 29.  He was born Oct. 25, 1962, in Stuttgart to the late Noel and JoAnn Beard Sr.
Scotty worked at Middleton Heat and Air for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Ron Hodges. 
He is survived by his wife, Janet Beard; three sons, Paul, Cody and Chris Beard; a daughter, Nikki Polston; four brothers, Davey, Buddy, Wayman and Jayson Beard; four sisters, Karen Duesterhoft, Kathy Beard, Chantae Whitley and Ricki Gail Wood; and two grandchildren, Clayton and Kloey Polston.

George W. “Bill” Bard

George W. “Bill” Bard, 89, of Bryant passed away Thursday, March 1.  He was born Oct. 31, 1922, in Bauxite to the late James Arthur and Jewel Ewing Bard.  Bill was a lifelong Democrat, a resident of Saline County and a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church.  He served in the 782nd Tank Battalion during World War II.

Lawrence Edward "Ced" Ross,

Lawrence Edward "Ced" Ross, 77, passed away on Thursday, March 1.
He was a member of First Christian Church, was a retired irrigation well driller and an Army veteran.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Edna Hornbeck Ross; an infant brother; and a sister, Reba Vickers.

Steve Ervin Gossage

Steve Ervin Gossage, 63, of Benton, passed away Feb. 28.  He was born Feb. 26, 1949, in Sherrill to the late Steve and Ida Keen Gossage.
Steve was a carpenter and a Navy veteran.

Janice Sue Barnard

Janice Sue Barnard, 54, of Hensley passed away Tuesday, Feb. 28.  She was born Nov. 2, 1957, in Little Rock.  Janice was a member of Forrest Tower Baptist Church. 
She is survived by her husband, Ted Barnard; a son, Teddy Barnard; three daughters, Amanda Fox, Jennifer Rodgers and Carrie Barnard; her parents, Leo and Lou Mercer; a brother, Greg Mercer; a sister, Tammy Hogue, all of Hensley; and eight grandchildren, Kadin Fox, Spencer Fox, Braxton Fox, Dillon Booth, Sydney Booth, Aubrie Booth, Braden Isom and Jaycie Rodgers.

Dabbs seeks 3rd term on Quorum Court

Dr. Allan M. Dabbs of Bryant is seeking re-election to the District 5 Justice of the Peace position on the Saline County Quorum Court.
A self-proclaimed “Reagan Republican,” Dabbs is seeking the GOP’s nomination in the May preferential primary election.
Dabbs, owner of Back and Body Chiropractic in Bryant, brings years of civic service experience to the court, having served on the Bryant City Council in 2004-05, the Bryant Chamber board and as a reserve officer for the Saline County Sheriff's Office. He also has amassed many hours of community service.

Alleged shooter in Alexander arrested

A Little Rock man — who is accused of involvement in a recent shooting in Alexander that sent two men to local hospitals — was arrested early today, authorities said.

Bryant swimming takes third in State

LITTLE ROCK – With 30 Arkansas High School swim teams participating in the Arkansas State High School Swim/Dive Championships at UALR on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24 and 25, the Bryant Hornet Girls swim team finished the meet No. 3 in the state.

“This is the best finish in the State Meet for a Lady Hornet Swim Team,” said Coach Angel Dale. “I am extremely proud of the third-place finish for the girls’ team. The girls brought home a medal in every event they swam except for the 400 relay.” said Dale.

Cardinals throw no-hitter

HASKELL – The Harmony Grove Cardinal baseball team started their season at 1-0 with a 9-4 victory over Magnet Cove on Monday. On Wednesday, the Cardinals welcomed 6A foe Fair into their ballpark for game two of the season. A no-hitter and 26 runs later and the Cardinals had themselves a 26-0 win and a 2-0 season record.

Cardinals starting pitcher Arron Arzt struck out four in the top of the fourth, allowing one runner to reach base on a passed ball and error on the catcher.
