BENTON â€“ Leading by four runs going into the top of the sixth only to have the game tied on one swing, the Benton Panthers came away with a 5-4 extra-inning win in the bottom of the eighth over the El Dorado Wildcats in an important 6A South conference game on Thursday at Panther Field.
Benton senior Ryne Besancon, who pinch hit and struck out for starting pitcher Coulton Lee two innings before, hit a game-winning RBI double in the bottom of the eighth inning.
â€śIt was just a great ballgame; a great way to win the game,â€ť Benton Coach Mark Balisterri said.
BENTON â€“ The Benton Lady Panthers added to their already impressive season with their second 15-0 win in a row on Thursday. Benton beat JA Fair on Tuesday in three innings. El Dorado got a bitter taste of Benton on Thursday as Benton extended their winning streak to 13.
Starting pitcher Lauren White started the game in the circle and sat down El Dorado in order in the top of the first.
Ula Jean (Turner) Griffin, 73, of the Shaw Community, passed away Wednesday, April 4, at Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock.Â She was born April 20, 1938 in England to the late T.J. and Verda Ann Turner.Â She was a homemaker and loved to hunt and raise chickens.Â She was of Missionary Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Walter Wayne Griffin; two grandsons, Chris Lewis and Walter Ammons; two sisters, Irma Gregg and Vetola Stergeon, and four brothers.Â
Randy Michael Wootten, 46, of Batesville entered heaven after a courageous battle with lung cancer, quietly with family at his home, on Monday, April 2. He was born August 29, 1966 in Torrance, Calif. to Jerry and Wanda Wooten.
He is proceeded in death by his father, Jerry C. Wootten on Benton.
