Sorrows earns national recognition as adviser

Step into Margaret Sorrows’ classroom and within 30 seconds, it is clear the profound impact the journalism adviser of 33 years — 21 of which have been at Bryant — has had on her students. Framed award certificates and plaques border the walls. Autographed photos and notes of students long-graduated, vie for prominent placement on the esteemed adviser's desk, shelves, tables and bookcases.

Aubyn Jo Nelson

Aubyn Jo Nelson, 87, of Benton, formerly of Van Buren, passed away Saturday, April 7, in a Benton nursing home. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Sallie Moss; a sister, Ina Lee Miller; and a brother, Fred Moss.

James Gary Howard

James Gary Howard, 53, of Benton passed away Saturday, April 7, at his home. He was employed as a service technician at USA Compression.  He also served in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of Holland Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Kerry Howard; a son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Jessica Howard; a daughter and son-in-law, Jamie and Seth Thomas; four grandchildren, Travis and Andrew Howard and Gabe and Aidan Thomas; and a host of many family and friends. 

Geraldine Konieczny

Geraldine Konieczny, 68, of Benton (Tull Community), passed away Sunday, April 8.  She was born May 24, 1943 in Chicago, Illinois.  Mrs. Konieczny and her husband moved to Benton in July of 1976.  She was a member of the Bauxite Historical Association and attended several local community functions.
Mrs. Konieczny was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Konieczny.

Robert 'Bob' H. Fenner

Robert "Bob" H. Fenner, 82, of Little Rock, died April 5 after a brief illness.
Bob was born March 8, 1930, in Baytown, Texas.  He proudly served his country aboard the USS Kermit Roosevelt during the Korean Conflict.
Bob retired from the Arkansas State Police and from the Arkansas Army National Guard as a master sergeant.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mildred and Aubrey Laster; and a beloved brother, Jack Laster.

Horace William Garton

Horace William Garton known to those who loved him as "Chic" or "Pastor G," age 87, went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 4 at the Saline Memorial Hospice House in Bryant. He was born in Philadelphia, PA on June 8, 1924.

Teresa Gail Johns

Teresa Gail Swan Johns, 47, of Benton, died Friday, April 6, 2012 at the Saline Memorial Hospital in Benton. Mrs. Johns was a native of Crossett and a resident of Benton for the past 19 years. She graduated from Crossett High School in 1982. She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Benton Service Center for 5 years.
She was a member of the Apostolic Tabernacle in Benton and a member of the Lupus Foundation. She was a very charitable and caring person, an avid Razorback fan and loved Razorback football.

Shirley Ann Glaze

Shirley Ann Glaze, 72, of Alexander passed away Wednesday, April 4.  She was born March 5, 1940 in Bauxite, Ark.  Mrs. Glaze worked as a cashier at a grocery store.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Deaton Lattin and Annie Lois (Jones) Lattin; husband, Montie Glenn Glaze; daughter, Ann Marie Glaze and a sister, Josephine Wear.

Brian Russell Cunningham

Brian Russell Cunningham, 31, of Bryant passed away April 5. He was born April 20, 1980 in Hampton, Va. to  Michael and Delores Hensley Cunningham. 
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Raymond Cunningham, Mildred Cunningham, Leo Travis Hensley, and Doris Nadine Hensley. 
He is survived by his parents, Michael Wayne Cunningham and Delores Ann Cunningham, sisters, Stacy Fritzius, Rhonda Venis and husband, Ronald Venis II all of Benton, children, Kylie Grace Cunningham and Emily Madison Cunningham of Malvern, Tylar Raye Cunningham of Alabama, six nieces and two nephews.

Gary Snodderly

Gary Snodderly, 56, of Benton went home to be with the Lord on April 4. He was born June 4, 1955, to Raymond and Jean Snodderly in Rockford, Ill.
Mr. Snodderly loved reading the word of God and sharing his time with God in the outdoors.
He is survived by his father, Raymond Snodderly and his mother, Jean Smith; a sister, Linda Bunting and husband Mike; his best friend, Wendy Martin; a nephew, Johnny Jones; two great-nieces, Jacey and Avery Jones; and a great-nephew, Max Jones.
