BAUXITE â Lack of defense and hitting led to a 6-0 Bauxite Miners loss to the Benton Freshmen Panthers on Monday in Bauxite. Bauxite Coach Michael Mattox summed up his teamâs performance.
âSix errors,â he started. âSix errors on the field; six runs. At some point they correlate. Itâs the story of our past couple weeks.â
Freshmen Panthers starter Jared Barker had something to with the Miners lack of hitting as he pitched five and two-third shutout innings giving up just one hit. Barker walked three and struck out two in 80 pitches.
HASKELL â For the Harmony Grove Cardinals, wins have been few and far between. It was March 28 when the Cardinals last found themselves in the win column with a 5-2 victory over 3A South conference favorite and arch rival Glen Rose. Since that time, the Cardinals have lost seven straight including a loss to conference foe Fountain Lake on Monday, 6-4.
FARMINGTON, Ark. - The Bryant Lady Hornets won their 26th and 27th consecutive games dating to last year when they traveled to Farmington to play two against Mansfield and Farmington on Saturday. Bryant defeated the Mansfield Lady Tigers 14-2 and beat the Farmington Lady Cardinals 7-2 to improve their undefeated season to 24-0 overall and 7-0 in the 7A Central conference.
BEEBE - The Benton Lady Panthers strolled into Saturdayâs Beebe Tournament riding an 18 game winning streak and looking to tack on even more to their already successful season.
WIth a pitching dual brewing through the first three innings, both Benton and Westside Jonesboro combined for three hits and two walks before the low scoring affair finally got itâs first run in the fourth.

An Arkansan accused of defrauding more than $40,000 from the City of Bryant was arrested on Friday, April 13, according to the Bryant police.
Christopher Dwayne Barnes, 38, has not been formally charged by the Saline County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, however, in January, an arrest warrant was issued for theft of property on Barnes. He is also wanted in multiple areas throughout the state â Sebastian and Faulkner Counties for theft and in Pope County for nonsupport â for similar fraud crimes, authorities said.
The search for a convicted sex offender that failed to comply with registration requirements comes to an end, Benton police said.
Anthony Wayne Page, 25, was apprehended on Monday and is expected to be transferred from the Hot Spring County Jail to the Saline County Jail within the next few days. Authorities said that Page violated terms of his release from jail and that not complying with registration requirements â providing a current address where that person resides â by sex offenders is a felony charge.
Alyce Marion Hewett Mork of Little Rock, passed away April 14. She was born on June 29, 1926 in Lewisville, to the late Francis and Alyce Hewett. Marion was a member of St. Andrewâs Methodist Church and after becoming disabled, looked forward to watching Joel Osteen and other television evangelists. Marion, along with her parents, owned and operated Alyce-Francis Cleaners for over 60 years. She was a faithful member of the Billy Graham Association. She had a great love for animals and her dog, Mindy, was by her side until the end.
John W. Wray, 87, of Benton went to be the Lord on Sunday, April 15. He was born in Benton on November 9, 1924. He was a retired construction superintendent and a member of the Church of the Nazarene. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He enjoyed going to church, fishing, scuba diving, trained cutting horses, winning World in 1964, and making people laugh with his quick witted sense of humor. He was a member of the Gideonâs International.
He was preceded in death by his parents; John and Blanche (Praytor) Wray.
Robert Ray Davis, Sr., 80, resident of Benton, passed away Saturday, April 14. He was born May 22, 1931 in Bauxite to the late Claude Davis and the late Bertha Viola Gould Davis Rapier. Mr. Davis served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He later retired as mining supervisor at Alcoa.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Marilyn Gail Shelton and Claudia Gould Walker, and a niece, Dana Shelton.Â
Raymond J. Smith, 80, of Benton passed away Saturday, April 14, in Bryant. He was born March 30, 1932 in New York City, New York to the late Raymond Smith and Mary Costigan Smith. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving in the Korean War.  Later he retired as a mechanical engineer for AT&T.Â
