Inmate walks away from courthouse; manhunt continues

Law enforcement in Saline County are search for an inmate that walked away from the Saline County Courthouse today.
Timothy Berthelson, 46, whose home address is listed as 22660 Interstate 30 in Bryant reportedly walked away around 2:45 p.m. while performing work duty at the courthouse. Berthelson was served a warrant on Sunday for three counts of failure to appear on four counts of hot check, traffic and other violations. According to the Saline County Sheriff's Office, Berthelson had been incarcerated for 33 days, but was expected to be released — pending a court appearance — tomorrow.

Benton Council approves suspension of increased utility deposits

Benton City Council took measures Monday night to address a growing concern about increased utilities deposits imposed by Ordinance 14 of 2010.
The council approved a resolution, submitted at the request of the Benton Utilities Commission, to review the section of the ordinance that "provides a method for determining whether or not an increase in deposit should be demanded as a condition of continued service."

Katherine Elizabeth 'Beth' Farnam

Katherine Elizabeth “Beth” Farnam, 40, of Benton, lost her battle with ovarian cancer on May 13.  She passed away at her home surrounded by her family and friends.

Martha Ann Wilson Wallace

Martha Ann Wilson Wallace, 68, of Benton went to be with the Lord on May 14. She was born May 26, 1943 in Malvern.
Martha was a graduate of the Bauxite Class of 1963. She was retired from State of Arkansas Department of Human Services after 31 years, and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Mable and Lee Wilson; and a brother, Don Wilson.

Margaret Jean Tillman

Margaret Jean Tillman, 76, of Alexander died Sunday, May 13. She was born Feb. 19, 1936, in Bauxite. Margaret was a retired factory worker and a Baptist.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Taylor Tillman and Sarah Rebekah Tillman; three brothers, Robert Russell “Puddin” Tillman, John Henry “Cotton” Tillman, and Edward Lewis “Tea” Tillman; and a sister, Carrie Rodgers.
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Hillman of Alexander; a granddaughter, Amy Lanette Lites of Louisiana; seven nieces and 10 nephews.
