Grace Ann Mason

May 21, 2012

Grace Ann Mason, 73, passed away Friday night, May 18, at Saline Memorial Hospital in Benton.  Born Sept. 2, 1938, she was the oldest child of of Delbert Lewis Price and Alice Smith Price. 
Grace Ann was retired from Saline Radiology.  She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Lewis Don Price; and his wife, Tressie .

James William Middlebrooks

James William Middlebrooks, 83, of Benton, went to be with the Lord Saturday, May 19.  He was born Aug. 23, 1928 in Bastrop, La., to the late Howard Middlebrooks and Agnus (Laing) Middlebrooks Ellard. 
Mr. Middlebrooks founded Middlebrooks Electric in 1945.  He was a member of West Bauxite Missionary Baptist Church in Bauxite.

Phyllis Scott

Phyllis Scott, 90, of Alexander, passed away Friday, May 18.  She was born August 30, 1921 in Bemidji, Minnesota.  Mrs. Scott was a retired bookkeeper, a member of Pleasant Hills Methodist Church and a longtime resident at Lake Norrell.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Louie and Esther Lines; husband, Samuel Scott and a son, Vernon Lee Scott.

Edith "Jeanette" Green

Edith “Jeanette” Green, 66, of Avilla, passed away Wednesday, May 16.  She was born October 26, 1945 in Little Rock to the late George and Jewell Kruse. 
She is survived by her son, Artie Green and wife Dallas of Alexander; daughter, Tracie Rich and husband Brian of Alexander; her twin sister, Jeanne Hutchison and six grandchildren, Tyler Green, Kruse Rich, Brody Rich, Piper Green, Lucas Ward and Corley Ward.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 22 at Ashby Funeral Home with burial at Pine Crest Memorial Park.  Brother Carl Ritchey will be officiating.

Razorback quilt project set to aid back-to-school event

The Ralph Bunche Community Action Committee has one primary mission: To level the playing field for schoolchildren.
The focus of the event is the annual back-to-school picnic held at Ralph Bunche Community Park shortly before the start of the new school year. This year's event is scheduled for Aug. 4.
Oveta Pledger, president of the sponsoring organization, said funds are being raised now to be able to once again sponsor this project that has helped many, many children in the community.

PERFECTO: Bryant completes 3-peat, perfect season

FAYETTEVILLE - The Bryant Lady Hornets completed their undefeated seasaon with an 8-4 win against the Bentonville Lady Tigers to win the 7A State Championship on Saturday at Bogle Park in Fayetteville. The Lady Hornets finish 34-0, extend their winning streak to 37 games dating back to last season, not to mention winning their third consecutive 7A State Title game.

CHAMPS! Hornets take 2nd title in 3 years

FAYETTEVILLE – The Bryant Hornets are the new 7A State Champions after defeating the Rogers Heritage War Eagles 4-2 on Friday afternoon at Baum Stadium in Fayetteville. The Central No. 2 seed Hornets needed just four hits to score four runs, taking advantage of the No. 2 seed War Eagles’ six walks and three hit batters. It was the Hornets second State Title in the past three years, making it all three years, but losing to Conway last year.

Jerry Wayne Breland, 73, born Dec. 1, 1938 in Farmerville, La., to Willie Columbus and Mittie Evelyn (Nash) Breland, passed away to be with his Lord and Savior on the morning of May 16.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Wilbur D. Breeland.

Mary Alma Pever Johnson

Mary Alma Pever Johnson, 87, of Bauxite went to be with the Lord on May 17. She was born July 18, 1924, to the late Hiram and Jessie Pever in Athens, Ala. Mary enjoyed working word search puzzles, traveling, bird watching and African violets. She retired after years of dedication from teaching developmental disabled adults in Athens, Ala. Her most precious memories were times spent with her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, O.B. Johnson; two sisters; one brother and one granddaughter, Lori Johnson.

Panthers take 4th at Meet of Champs

PEARCY – The Benton Panthers track and field team competed in four events in the Meet of Champs at Lake Hamilton High School in Pearcy on Saturday and finished fourth overall with 29 points. Vilonia took first with 52 points, followed by Conway (40) and Heber Springs (32). Bentonville and Rogers each had 28 points, coming behind Benton.

As usual, senior runner Zach Riley led the way for Benton, winning the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. Riley won the 100 in a time of 10.75 and the 200 in 21.67.
