South Carolina beats Arkansas 2-0 on 3-hitter

June 22, 2012

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Lefty see, lefty do.
Hours after he watched senior left-hander Michael Roth's two-hitter against Kent State keep South Carolina's season alive, freshman lefty Jordan Montgomery did his best imitation of the Gamecocks' undisputed team leader when he got his turn against Arkansas on Thursday night.
Montgomery held the Razorbacks to three singles over eight innings, and the two-time defending national champions won 2-0 to force a rematch Friday night that will decide which team goes to the best-of-three College World Series finals against Arizona.

Saline County is under a burn ban.
County Judge Lanny Fite announced today that he has declared the ban following the state Forestry Commission's recommendation.
Burn bans are issued for 30 days unless a lift is authorized by the Arkansas Forestry Commission.
The ban reportedly applies to controlled or other burning.
The current dry conditions and high temperatures reportedly have necessitated this decision.
The county is among several of the state's 75 counties that currently have bans in effect, according to the Arkansas Forestry Commission.

In these cases, the one consistent communications service that reportedly never has failed has been amateur radio. These radio operators, often called “hams,” provide backup communications for everything from the American Red Cross to FEMA and even for the International Space Station.
