Marcia Ann Atchley

Marcia Ann Atchley, 58, of Little Rock passed away on June 23, 2012, at her residence. She was born in Little Rock on May 8, 1954, to John W. and Bonnie Faye (Coyle) Gillmore.
She worked for many years at Bank of America as a customer service representative. Marcia attended Geyer Springs Baptist Church. She enjoyed roller skating and photography.
Marcia’s favorite pastime was spending time with her family, whom she treasured above all else.

Ronald 'Ronnie' Elam

Ronald “Ronnie” Elam, 47, of Benton left this world on June 22. He was born June 19, 1965. Ronnie was very loved and will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Elam; his brother, Keith Coney; and his sister, Tonya Brown.

Teri Lashiel Mitchell

June 25, 2012

Teri Lashiel Mitchell, 51,of Sheridan died Saturday, June 23, at her home near Sheridan.
She was born Aug. 9, 1960 at Batesville, the daughter of Eleanor Chambers Mitchell and the late O.D. Mitchell. She was a 1978 graduate of Sheridan High School, and also served in the U.S. Navy for five years, and the Naval Reserves following that. She worked for Arkansas Workforce in Benton, enjoyed photography and loved animals, which led her to be a supporter of the Humane Society.

Van Buren "V.B." Chism

Van Buren "V.B." Chism, 83, of Benton, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 23, with his family by his side in Bryant.
V.B., as his friends and family called him, was born in Carden Bottom, Yell County, Ark., on Dec. 13, 1928.  He was the son of Joseph Leonard and Rosie Belle Chism.
V.B. was retired from Jacuzzi Brothers Inc., where he was a tool and cutter grinder. He was an author and inventor.

Terri Welch

Terri Welch, 41, of Haskell, went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 22.  She was born March 5, 1971, in Little Rock to James H. and Theresa (Payne) Welch.  She graduated from Harmony Grove High School and was of the Christian faith.
She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Nickholas J. Welch and James Henry Welch; her grandfather, James E. Welch; and her grandmother, Eddie Payne.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her grandmother, Mary Irene Welch; aunts, uncles, and many friends.

Josephine Ann "Josie" Gillen

Josephine Ann "Josie" Gillen, 80, formerly of Benton, passed away peacefully on Sunday June 17, in Austin, Texas. She was born in Benton on Oct. 10, 1931, to Norma Styers Overton.
Josie was a loving mother and devoted to her family. She will be dearly missed by all blessed to have had her in their life.
She was preceded in death by her mother; her aunt and uncle, Doris "Sissy" and L.J. "Buster" White; another uncle, W. J. "Bill" Styers; and her grandparents, W.J. and Josephine Styers.  

Connie Darlene Wilkerson Parish

Connie Darlene Wilkerson Parish, 53, of Benton, passed away June 21.  She was born Jan. 8, 1959, in Sheridan, to Fred and Aleece Wilkerson. 
She was preceded in death by her father,her brothers, Bobby Threlkeld and Troy James; a sister, Cynthia Richardson; and her favorite cat, Midnight.
She is survived by her husband, Louis Parish of Benton; a daughter, Kristi Townsend of Benton; her mother, Aleece Goins, and her stepfather, Clomer Goins of Benton; a sister, Vickie Smith of Benton; and wo grandchildren, Breiana Fox and Nicholas McDaniel all of Benton.

Judy Arnold

Judy Arnold, 70, of Benton, passed away at Saline Memorial Hospice in Bryant on Thursday, June 21.
Born in Stuttgart on March 21, 1942, she was the first child born to Harold Lloyd and Juanita Stephenson. Judy graduated from DeWitt High School in 1960 and Henderson State University in 1964. In 1965 she married Glen Arnold and they settled in Benton in 1974 to raise their family.

Benton man, former firefighter arrested for child pornography

A Benton man — a former firefighter for the Benton Fire Department — was arrested on Friday for allegedly having child pornography on his home computer, according to the Saline County Sheriff's Office.
Timothy Ryan Bodkin, 38, faces 1,000 counts of felony possession of child pornography and is being held without bond pending an appearance via satellite in Benton District Court later today.

Utility deposits, drainage issues on Benton City Council agenda

Benton City Council is expected tonight to consider the second reading of an ordinance that amends customer service rules, regulations and fees for Benton Utilities customers.
The ordinance previously been presented for its first reading.Three are required before a vote can be taken.
If the ordinance is approved, it will amend the amount charged to commercial customers that are delinquent on their accounts.
Benton Public Utilities Commission recently addressed the matter, which also came under the review of the council's Community Services Committee.
