John Charles McCown, Sr.

John Charles McCown Sr., 79, of Benton passed away Wednesday, July 11.  He was born March 17, 1933, in Little Rock to the late Earl Mitchell McCown Sr. and Edith Cutrell McCown.
A Korean War veteran, Mr. McCown served with the U.S. Marine Corps, earning the rank of staff sergeant. He also was a retired Army veteran, holding the rank of sergeant major. He also served in the Army National Guard, holding the rank of sergeant major.

Treba Mildred Fowler

Treba Mildred Fowler, 85, of Benton died Thursday, July 12.
She was born March 27, 1927, in Saline County. Treba was retired from the U.S. Postal Service.
Since 1954, she had been a member of Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for 50 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ada Garrett Lawrence; her husband, Robert Fowler; a grandson, Patrick Jay Fowler; four brothers and three sisters.

Margie Moody

Margie Moody, 85, of Benton passed away July 12.  She was born Jan. 9, 1927, in Benton to the late Roy Robert and Josie Keene Wilson.
Margie was a member of the Grape Chapel Church of God and Sharon Extension Homemakers Club. She attended the Benton Senior Activities Center and was a volunteer for Churches Joint Council on Human Needs.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charlie Moody; a granddaughter, Kristy Kurtz; a great-granddaughter, Emma Kurtz; her brothers, Melton, Elton and Doyle Wilson; and her sisters, Edith Woodall, Lois Berry and Emma Hussey.

Well Kobe Bryant has opened his mouth at the wrong time once again. On Wednesday, Kobe stated that his 2012 U.S. Olympic team that will be competing in London could beat the 1992 Dream Team that won gold.
Really? Did my ears really hear that? Who in their right mind could possibly think their team has what it takes to take down the greatest assembled team the world has ever, and possibly will ever see again? I thought Kobe was a conceited punk before and this just proves my point.
