Herald L. Radican

July 19, 2012

Herald L. Radican, 88, of Benton passed away July 16.  He was born March 26, 1924, in Commerce, Texas, to the late Clyde and Lona Troboy Radican.  Herald was a deacon at Holland Chapel Baptist Church in Benton, worked for Reynolds Metals and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He loved to make making walnut shell baskets and was well-known for this skill.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Wilma Radican.

Black Sox tune up for district

BRYANT – The Bryant Black Sox hosted the Sylvan Hills Bruins on Tuesday night in their last regular season game of the year and took care of business going into the district tournament. The Black Sox defeated the Bruins 11-1 in eight innings at Bryant High School in a solid warmup going into Saturday’s second-round tournament game starting at 1 p.m. in Texarkana.

Andy Griffith: An American idol whose show exemplified what's right in the world

The passing of American icon Andy Griffith has caused a major shift in attention to Mayberry, the mythical town where Sheriff Andy Taylor rarely had to do any sheriffing, but dispensed lots of homespun wisdom that served a higher calling.
Everybody would have liked to live in Mayberry.
That's not surprising because it was a place where although everybody knew everybody else's business — not always desirable — more importantly, it was a place where people took care of each other. And love was the common denominator that held them together.
