Margie Moody, 85, of Benton passed away July 12. She was born Jan. 9, 1927, in Benton to the late Roy Robert and Josie Keene Wilson.
Margie was a member of the Grape Chapel Church of God and Sharon Extension Homemakers Club. She attended the Benton Senior Activities Center and was a volunteer for Churches Joint Council on Human Needs.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charlie Moody; a granddaughter, Kristy Kurtz; a great-granddaughter, Emma Kurtz; her brothers, Melton, Elton and Doyle Wilson; and her sisters, Edith Woodall, Lois Berry and Emma Hussey.
Well Kobe Bryant has opened his mouth at the wrong time once again. On Wednesday, Kobe stated that his 2012 U.S. Olympic team that will be competing in London could beat the 1992 Dream Team that won gold.
Really? Did my ears really hear that? Who in their right mind could possibly think their team has what it takes to take down the greatest assembled team the world has ever, and possibly will ever see again? I thought Kobe was a conceited punk before and this just proves my point.
Saline County Circuit Judge Gary Arnold ruled Wednesday to set aside a motion requiring MySaline.com owner Shelli Russell to divulge information three Bryant alderman hoped would lead them to the identify of a particular blogger who writes under the alias, “The Shadow.â€
The ruling to quash the motion stems from a lawsuit the aldermen filed in February against six anonymous bloggers on the MySaline. The three claimed the blogposts were “libelous and defamatory on their face.â€
Bryant resident Ricky Tripp and Saline County Circuit Clerk Dennis Milligan were subpoenaed to give testimony Tuesday in a Saline County Circuit Court proceeding conducted by Circuit Judge Gary Arnold. However, only Tripp was called as a witness.
Attorney Tona Demers, representing Bryant Aldermen Adrian Henley, Danny Steele and Brenda Miller, had planned to put both on the stand in the effort of Demers' clients to learn the identity of an anonymous blogger at the website MySaline.com. The pertinent comments were posted under the alias, “The Shadow.â€
Bond is not being reduced for the former Benton firefighter accused of downloading images of child pornography to a computer at his home, authorities told The Saline Courier late Thursday.
Timothy Ryan Bodkin, 38, is being held in the Saline County Detention Center on a $200,000 sheriff's bond. He is facing a thousand counts of felony possession of child pornography.

Miss Greater Little Rock, Bethany Whitfield of Bryant, tied to win the Lifestyle and Fitness in Swimsuit Preliminary award on Wednesday, the second night of preliminaries at the 75th Anniversary Miss Arkansas Pageant at Summit Arena in Hot Springs.
On Wednesday night, Whitfield won the pageant's Preliminary Artistic Expression in Talent award.
Whitfield, 23, tied for the swimsuit honor with Sarah Elise Gafvert, Miss Northwest Arkansas.

Septic tank disposal operators are finding themselves at odds with Benton city officials.
Terry McKinney, general manager of Benton Utilities, and the Public Utilities Commission have recommended that the city disallow the discharge of residential and industrial waste from residential and commercial waste haulers into the Benton Wastewater System.
The first reading of an ordinance that would prohibit this practice was presented at a City Council meeting Monday night.
Several haulers attended the meeting to protest the action which, they say, will effectively put them out of business.
It was revealed Wednesday in Benton District Court that a former Benton firefighter allegedly confessed to authorities that he specifically searched for and downloaded child pornography to a computer in his home.

Jo Ann Arras, 44 of Little Rock, passed away Tuesday, July 10. She was born April 14, 1968, to James and Lois Arras of Bryant.
Jo Ann was loving and devoted to her mother and grandmother. She was born on Easter Sunday and collected bunnies. She graduated from Baptist Health and was previously employed as an LPN at Baptist Health.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Arras; and her grandparents.
