A fireworks display is scheduled late Sunday at Bernard Holland Park.
Robert Edwards, interim director for the Benton Parks and Recreation Department, said this is the fireworks show that originally had been planned for the Benton Freedom Fest held during the Fourth of July weekend. That show was canceled because of safety concerns during the "severe drought conditions," Benton Fire Chief Bill Ford said.
Dale Farrell McClennahan, 78, of Benton, passed away Aug. 30.Â He was born Nov. 7, 1933, in Highland to the late Harrison and Joy L. McClennahan.
Dale was a member of Spring Creek Missionary Baptist Church and retired from U.S. Steel of Gary, Ind., after 33 years and 10 months of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Loretta White.
He is survived by wife, Judith Bussey McClennahan of Benton; a brother, Terry McClennahan and wife Elaine of Benton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation was through Ashby Funeral Home.
Virgie Mae Lowrey, 90, of Little Rock, died August 26. She was born May 5, 1922 to Floyd and Winnie Evans. She experienced a full and healthy life, adored her husband of 40 years and served with him at Archview Baptist Church since 1963. She was active in Godâ€™s Older Kids, Puppet and Bus ministry; always witnessing to others her Christian faith. She spent her working years in the Trust Department of Regions Bank retiring in 1984. After retirement, she devoted her time to preparing lessons for Sunday school class for over 20 years.
