August 7th
Mary Frances Mills, 80, of Bauxite, formerly of Mayflower, went to be with the Lord Aug. 5, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Mary was born in Russellville on Dec. 31, 1931, and lived there until she married and moved to Little Rock. Her husband served with the U.S. Army and during her marriage she had the opportunity to see many parts of the United States.
Elvin Hill, 58, of Alexander, passed away Aug. 5.
He was born July 31, 1954, in Benton, to the late Ralph and Mildred Boudra Hill. An avid hunter and fisherman, he worked for Power of Arkansas for more than 21 years and was a dedicated employee.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Hill of Alexander; sons, Kevin and Steven Hill, both of Benton; a brother, Ellis Hill of Jessieville; four sisters, Martha Ray and Shirley Thornberry, both of Malvern, Lavern Tittle of Haskell, and Carolyn Hiltenbrand of Missouri; a stepson, Bryan Coney of Mabelvale; seven grandsons and one granddaughter.

Thelma Atwood, 100, of Little Rock, formerly of Benton, passed away Aug. 4. She was born Aug. 28, 1911, in Hickory Plains. She was the daughter of Herbert Lemuel Colclasure and Sarah Lillian Lackie-Colclasure.
Thelma was a retired assembly Inspector for Timex. She was a member of Ivy Chapel Christian Church and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, sewing, quilting and needlework.
Jimmy Wayne Dodson Sr., 65, passed away on July 31. He was born Dec. 27, 1947, in Benton.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Velma Dodson.
He is survived by a son, Jimmy Wayne Dodson Jr., as well as many friends and family members.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, at Peaceful Haven Funeral Home in Benton. No memorial service is planned.

Mary Davenport Wert Kimpel, 89, of Little Rock passed to the Lord’s care on Aug. 1.
Mary was born Dec. 9, 1922, to William and Katherine Wert in Chattanooga, Tenn. She graduated from Benton High School. After working for a few years as a receptionist at the Hurricane Creek aluminum plant in Bauxite, she met a young engineer named Paul Henry Kimpel Jr. They were married on July 19, 1944, and enjoyed 68 years of marriage.

BRYANT – After winning its second State Championship in the past three years with a 4-2 win over Rogers Heritage, the Bryant Hornets have received national recognition as two of its players were honored with awards. Second baseman Ozzie Hurt was honored with the American Baseball Coaches Association Rawlings Gold Glove and pitcher Nate Rutherford received the Louisville Slugger Honorable Mention All-American after his stellar season and being named MVP of the State Tournament.
Rutherford put it bluntly when he told the reason for his success this year.
Harold Lee Woodard Sr., 84, of Benton, died Thursday, Aug. 2, at his home.
Harold was born Oct. 19, 1927, in Bradley County, a son of the late Silas Lee Woodard and Mary May Howsen Woodard.
He was a graduate of the Banks Public School System. He was a member of Cross Roads Missionary Baptist Church and was retired from Alcoa.
Doris “Perk” Gibbs Elam, 88, of Hot Springs passed away July 31, surrounded by her family.
Eugene Holcombe, 82, of Avilla passed away Aug. 2. He was born Nov. 21, 1929, in Tallapoosa, Ga., to the late Charlie and Ruby Carter Holcombe.Â
Eugene was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Marie Holcombe; two sons, Larry and Gary Holcombe; a daughter, Peggy Thompson; and grandchildren, Jimmy Holcombe and Jamie Lynn Thompson.
Reva P. Bramlett Decker, 87, of Benton died Wednesday, Aug, 1.
She was born Aug. 20, 1924, in Pocahontas. Reva retired after 15 years from Lucent Tech in Little Rock and was a member of Highway Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Nellie Wilkerson; her husband, C.C. Decker; an infant daughter, Paula Ann Decker; two brothers and four sisters.
