The Benton Junior High Panthers got off to a stellar start Thursday night at C.W. Lewis Stadium with wins over the Hot Springs Lakeside Rams. The Freshmen Panthers won 28-6 while the eighth graders won 20-6.
Brinson Williams intercepted a Lakeside pass on the Rams' first possession. On the ensuing play, Grayson Morrow made a diving catch in the end zone for the Panther touchdown. Williams kicked the first of his four PATâ€™s, giving the Panthers a 7-0 lead.
It was a rough start to the season for last yearâ€™s 6A South Conference champions. The 6A South Benton Lady Panthersâ€™ volleyball team went up against last yearâ€™s 7A Central Conference champion Conway Lady Wampus Cats and came out on the wrong end of a sweep. The Lady Panthers fell 0-3 (16-25, 16-25, 7-25) as they made too many errors against a powerhouse.
Benton and Bryant area chamber of commerce members are invited to set up booths for a tailgate party to be held in conjunction with the 2012 Salt Bowl game between the two competing schools.
The Salt Bowl game between Benton and Bryant will be taking place Friday, Sept. 21, at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock.Â Attendance at this game is traditionally the highest at any high school game in the state, according to a Benton Area Chamber of Commerce spokesperson.
Vendors are asked to register with the Benton Area Chamber of Commerce.Â
