Week 4 of the high school football season was the first clear week from the rain and lightning. After Hurricane Isaac dropped many inches of rain in Week 1 and carried over into Weeks 2 and 3, many games were canceled or called early throughout the state. As for last week, the Saline County area teams did not fare too well. Bryant beat Benton for the seventh straight time in Salt Bowl XIII, 55-21. Glen Rose won big over Harmony Grove, 48-21 and Bauxite and Sheridan fell in their conference openers. The loss for Bauxite marked the 13th straight, dating back to last season.
The Bryant girls golf team accomplished something this season that has never been done in school history – make the second day of the state tournament as a whole team. This past week, the Lady Hornets competed in the 7A state tournament at Conway Country Club and walked away with a second-place conference finish and stalled at fourth in state, missing third by a single stroke.
The Lady Hornets shot a collective 274 on day one, finishing 10 strokes behind the conference champion Fayetteville.
After losing in the finals to Avery, Texas, of a Henderson State University Tournament over the weekend, the Benton Lady Panther volleyball team went to El Dorado to play the Lady Wildcats in 7A/6A South conference action on Tuesday night. Benton swept El Dorado 3-0 (25-15, 25-8, 25-7) to improve to 6-1 in the South and 11-4 overall.
