Marion Jr. Craft

Marion Jr. Craft, 84, of Benton, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 4. 
He was born Sept. 7, 1927 in Lonsdale to Sophia Josephine (Cash) Craft and Francis Marion Craft. 
He entered the Army in February of 1946, serving his basic training at Camp Crower near Neosho, Mo. (south of Joplin).
After basic training, he went home for 20 days until June 1, 1946, when he traveled by train to Seattle, Wash., where he was stationed.  Early one morning with full field pack, they hiked (apparently near San Francisco) through a gate that read, “World’s Best Damn Soldiers Walked Through This Gate."

Kays seeks position on Bryant City Council

Alan Kays will vie for Position 2, Ward 1 of Bryant City Council in the Nov. 6 general election.
The position currently is held by Danny Steele, who is not seeking another term.
Kays' opponent is Wade Permenter. Aldermanic races are nonpartisan.
Kays said the main reason he is running for the council position is to "restore focus on City Council to our citizens." Particularly, he wants to hone in on supporting children and senior citizens.

Woman arrested Tuesday at state senator's home

A Little Rock woman was arrested late Tuesday after allegedly striking the head of state Sen. Jeremy Hutchinson, R-Little Rock.
A Little Rock police report said officers responded to 38-year-old Hutchinson's home, where 39-year-old Julie McGee had locked herself in a bathroom.
McGee, reportedly a former girlfriend of Hutchinson, claimed that the senator had thrown her onto a couch, causing "a swollen lip, scratches to her wrists and redness to her left arm."

Jack L. Hill

Jack L. Hill, 73, of Benton passed away on Sept. 1, with his loving family by his side.
He was born Dec. 21, 1938, to the late Lilburn and Sybil Hill in Paron.
Jack retired from Cranford Construction after 44 years.  He loved to hunt and watch western movies.  Jack was a people person who enjoyed talking and visiting with friends and family.  One of his greatest joys in life was to tell stories from his past.
He was a very devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ronnie Baugh; and a brother, Sharon Cleghorn.

Norris Collon Whitfield

Norris Collon Whitfield, age 66, of Bauxite, passed away Sunday September 2, 2012. He was born July 23, 1946 in Bauxite. Norris worked for the State Highway Dept. and was a member of Mars Hill Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Mattie Brooks Whitfield, brothers, Ray Whitfield, and Doyle Whitfield.
 
Survivors, wife, Deborah Whitfield, Bauxite; son, Michael Daymond Whitfield, Plano, Texas; Brothers, Carroll Whitfield, Fred Whitfield, both of Benton; sisters, Nellorine Hickman, Benton; Betty Ann Adams, Benton; Nelsene Ritchey, Bryant.
 

Roy D. Stewart

Roy D. Stewart of Benton died September 2, 2012. He was born September 4, 1926 to Cecil Stewart and Sylvia Wampfler. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Larry Morrison.
 
He is survived by his wife Wanda Stuart Stewart; son Mike Stewart and wife Cheryl, daughter, Michele Burrow. Six grandchildren, Shannon and husband Thad Pickard, St. Augustine, Florida; Megan and husband Colorado Barnard, Aaron Stewart, Jacob Burrow, Lauren Stewart, and Bent Burrow, all of Benton; three great-grandchildren, Hudson and Henley Barnard and Kale Pickard, several nieces and nephews.
 

First Security Bank robbed; image and description of suspect released

Benton police are searching for another bank robber dressed in camouflage that escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash from First Security Bank in Benton.
Lt. Kevin Russell said officers responded to the bank located at 1403 Military Road, just past noon on Thursday. The suspected bank robber is described as a 6 foot tall man dressed in a camouflage T-shirt, blue jeans, brown work boots, camouflage hat, black ski mask, dark colored sunglasses, black gloves, and a tan ‘courier style’ satchel.
