John Harmon Manasco Jr., 57, of Benton, left this world as we know it on Wednesday, Nov. 28, to go hunting forever and a day. He was born June 21, 1955.
John was preceded in death by his mother, Della Easley; and his brothers, Larry Van Pelt and David Manasco.

Greer Anthony Garner

Greer Anthony Garner left footprints on our hearts and earned his angel wings on Friday, Nov. 30, 2012.  Greer was deeply loved by his daddy and mommy, Chad and Karissa; his big sister, Hannah; his big brother, Whit; his grandparents, great-grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and many others.
Greer will always remain our precious baby and sibling to Hannah and Whit.

Virginia McKinney

Virginia McKinney, age 88, of Benton, passed away Friday, Nov. 30, 2012.  She was born June 1, 1924 in Grubbs.
Mrs. McKinney was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Ethel Mitchell; a son, Jerry Depew; a daughter, Vicki Taylor; a brother, Kindel Allen;a sister, Haley Fultcher; and two grandchildren, Laura Bunting and Robert Burmingham. 

Debra Kay Cloud Jones

Debra Kay Cloud Jones, 51, of Benton, passed away Nov. 30, 2012.  She was born Dec. 31, 1960, in Benton to Herbert G. and Jevan Cloud.
Debra was the kindergarten teacher at Our Lady of Fatima School for several years.
Teaching and her family were her life.  She truly had a God-given talent and touched many lives.  She was loved by all and well-known for all of her acts of kindness and generosity.
She was preceded in death by her father, Herbert Cloud, and her husband, Danny Jones.

Cleadus Wilson 'Smokey' Turbyfill III

Cleadus Wilson “Smokey” Turbyfill III, 67, a resident of Paron, died Thursday, Nov. 29.  He was retired after 30 years at Alcoa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Cleadus Turbyfill II. 
Mr. Turbyfill is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patsy Taylor Turbyfill; a son, Steven Turbyfill; a daughter, Stephanie Brooks and husband Matt; two grandsons, Blake and Jared Brooks; a daughter, Danielle Turbyfill; a brother, Forrest Turbyfill and wife Shawna; and a sister, Iris Michelle Brown.

Buddy 'BJ' Brazell Jr.

Buddy “BJ” Brazell Jr., who was born Aug. 22, 1956, in Lincoln County to Buddy Brazell Sr. and Eddie B. Brazell, departed this life in Lewisville, Texas, on Saturday, Nov. 24.
His family moved to Benton in 1969 and Buddy, along with his siblings, attended Benton public schools. He accepted Christ and became a member of Elect Temple Church of God in Christ under the ministry of the late Pastor Willie Barnes Jr.
He worked a a security officer and an employee of Walmart in Lewisville, Texas, until his health began to fail.

Fletcher Lance Kelloms

Fletcher Lance Kelloms, 74, of Benton passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 28.
He was born Dec. 1, 1937, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to James Kelloms Sr. and Ruby Cordell.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Kelloms Sr.; his mother, Ruby Cordell; his son, Robert Lance Kelloms; his brother, James Kelloms Jr.; and his sister, Ellen Kelloms.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Kelloms; his children, Mike Kelloms and Kelly Kelloms; his stepchildren, Lynn Coursey, Dena Mercer and Pam Robideaux; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Run-off election settles council seats

It took another election, but finally all of the municipal positions in Saline County have been decided.
In Tuesday's runoff election, Benton Alderman Brad Moore won a fifth term on the Benton City Council by defeating David Sparks in the race for the Ward 4, Position 1 seat on the 10-member panel.
Unofficial tallies from County Clerk Linda Montalvo's office gave Moore 201 votes to 117 for Sparks. Those numbers represented 63.21 percent for Moore and 36.79 percent for Sparks.

Raymond (Bud) Ward Westbrook Jr.

Raymond (Bud) Ward Westbrook Jr., 62, of Tull passed away Tuesday, Nov. 27.  He was born Sept. 17, 1950, in Little Rock to the late Raymond Ward Westbrook Sr. and Dorothy Jean Brashears Westbrook.
Mr. Westbrook worked for International Paper for 29 years and was a member of Saline Missionary Baptist Church.  He started the Tull Fire Department where he served as chief for 17 years.

Dianne Gale Kauffman

Dianne Gale Kauffman, 65, of Prattville, Ala., formerly of Benton, passed away on Nov. 28.  She was born Oct. 12, 1947, in Vicksburg, Miss., to the late Nick and Erma Louise Velchoff.
Dianne was a retired school teacher from the Autauga County School System in Prattville and a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Prattville.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Mike Velchoff.
