The first year in office is a busy time for any elected official. For Bryant Mayor Jill Dabbs, 'busy' might be an understatement.

LITTLE ROCK - With every beginning, there is an end. Just like the best or worst book in the world, it always ends in one way or another. There is no difference in this year’s Harmony Grove Lady Cardinals and most of all, this year’s seniors. After beating the Cutter Morning Star Lady Eagles on Tuesday night in the opening round of the 5-3A South district tournament at Episcopal, the Lady Cardinals found themselves fighting for a bid to the 3A regional tournament.
MALVERN – The Bauxite Miners’ season will continue as they picked up a 41-33 win against the Ashdown Panthers Wednesday night in the 7-4A district tournament held at the Bill Hunt Fieldhouse in Malvern. The Miners qualified for the regional tournament next week, but first have to face the No. 1 team in the 4A conference, Pulaski Academy.
“This time of year it’s a one-game season,” Bauxite Coach Mark Smith said. “It’s game to game and our guys, our seniors, we told them if you don’t want your career to be over, you’ve got to step it up.”
MALVERN – It wasn’t pretty, but the Bauxite Lady Miners extended their season with a 55-51 win over the Maumelle Lady Hornets Wednesday in the 7-4A district tournament in Malvern. The Lady Miners now have No. 2 seed and host Malvern tonight.
The Lady Miners (19-9, 11-4 7-4A), the No. 3 seed, looked as if they were going to have smooth sailing when they got up 21-8 after two Mary Crow free throws with 1:29 left in the first half, and leading 23-11 at halftime, but the third quarter and freshman Kamry Orr had other designs.

BENTON – The Benton Lady Panthers had no problem in dispensing the J.A. Fair Lady War Eagles 58-17 Tuesday night in 6A South conference action at Benton Arena. The Lady Panthers ho-hummed their way to the team’s 14th consecutive victory and improved to 12-0 in the 6A South.
“Fair is way down,” Benton Coach Jerry Chumley said. “We got through and didn’t have any injuries so mission accomplished.”
LITTLE ROCK – The Harmony Grove Lady Cardinals came into Tuesday night’s opening round of the 5-3A South District Tournament in control of their own fate. There was only one problem standing in their way and that was the Lady Eagles from Cutter Morning Star, a team Harmony Grove narrowly escaped with a win on the road just a few days ago.
LITTLE ROCK – The Glen Rose Beavers came into the first round of the 5-3A District Tournament at Episcopal (Little Rock) with nothing to lose and everything to gain as they tried to play spoiler and keep their season alive. But, there would be no fireworks on the Glen Rose side as Fountain Lake narrowly got past the Beavers 44-42.
