JP Tom Lish announces campaign for re-election

Tom Lish has announced his bid for a third term as justice of the peace for Saline County District 13.
Lish is seeking the nomination of the Saline County Republican Party in the May preferential primary election.
Lish stated, "While serving as JP, we have continued the tradition of being one of two counties in Arkansas not having a County General Sales Tax. I will continue to vote against any General Sales Tax.

David Pierce released

David Pierce, the convicted sex offender who served for nearly three decades as minister of music at Benton's First Baptist Church, has left prison. However, he will be under the supervision of the Kentucky Department of Corrections for the next seven years.
Pierce, 59, was granted parole from the Arkansas Department of Correction slightly less than two months ago, but was not allowed to leave immediately because of stipulations that required him to seek residency out of state.

Hornets end two–game skid

SANFORD, Fla. – After two games in the Florida League High School Invitational in Sanford, Fla., the Bryant Hornets are sitting at 1-1. The Hornets dropped their first game on Monday 4-2 against the Stallions of American Heritage High School from Del Ray Beach, Fla. Bryant had an off day on Tuesday before rebounding with a 7-4 win on Wednesday morning against the Sanford Seminoles.

The Stallions struck first against Bryant senior starter Tyler Nelson when Amfernee Seymour singled to start the game and Jonathan India doubled to scored Seymour for a 1-0 Heritage lead.

UPDATE FROM CITY OF BENTON REGARDING MILITARY ROAD WORK

The striping crew will be working on Military between Smithers and Lincoln on Thursday, March 22nd removing the existing striping.

The switch to the temporary signal at the Military/Lincoln intersection is
scheduled for Friday, March 23rd. The lane shift on Military from Smithers to Lincoln will be done at the same time. Eastbound traffic will be shifted into the center turn lane and the right lane will be closed from just west of Smithers to Watts. The westbound traffic will not change.

Benton woman crowned 'Miss Awesome' in Angels Pageant

Benton resident Sarah Young-Price, 20, was crowned “Miss Awesome Personality” in the 2012 Arkansas Angels Pageant on March 17 at Beebe High School.
The pageant was marked with the traditional grandeur - participants attired in rich gowns and suits, jewel-laden tiaras and satin sashes. Unlike other pageants, however, Arkansas Angels contestants are male and female, ages zero to 21, who have special needs.

McAdoo names Arkansas Street Rodder of 2011

Cliff McAdoo, 67, of Avilla, knows cars. His 50-plus years of car-building experience culminated this month when he was awarded the 2011 Arkansas Street Rodder of the Year by his peers.
"I was nominated back in November by James Hallman, a fellow street rodder," McAdoo explains.
In March, an awards dinner, with approximately 200 in attendance, was held in Conway for the 10 Arkansas nominees.

BENTON – The Benton Lady Panthers’ basketball team had one of the best years in school history during the 2011-12 season. Coming out of the 6A South conference, the Lady Panthers had a .500 record, sitting at 6-6 on Dec. 17 and then went on a little run.

Benton went on a 15-game winning streak, including winning the conference on Senior Night against second-place Texarkana 42-26 to improve to 13-0 in conference. It was the Lady Panthers’ first conference championship in 19 years.

Lady Hornets defeat Searcy in TOC final

NORTH LITTLE ROCK – The Bryant Lady Hornets had no trouble in the Tournament of Champions held at Burns Park in North Little Rock, outscoring their opponents 38-1 and defeating Searcy 16-1 in the championship game on Saturday night. After getting warmed up in an 8-0 win against Hope in the first round, the Lady Hornets beat Foreman 14-0 before the Searcy win.

Franklin one-hits Lake Hamilton in 10-0 rout

BENTON – The Benton Lady Panthers softball team has hit a bit of a hot streak as of late. After falling in the season opener to Bryant, the Lady Panthers have won eight straight games, including a 10-0 shutout victory over Lake Hamilton on Friday to open conference play.

Pitching duel ends with Miners' win

HASKELL – Neither team gave up a hit until the sixth inning, but the Bauxite Miners came out on top of the Harmony Grove Cardinals 6-2 on Friday night at Harmony Grove. It was tied 1-1 going into the seventh inning, but the Miners finally got to Cardinals’ senior starter Bodie Harris.

“We just had a different approach,” Bauxite Coach Michael Mattox said. “I’m not sure we solved him, we just had a better approach to stop swinging at high pitches and low pitches, waited for a good a good pitch and just drove it.
