Lady Panthers win again

BENTON – The Benton Lady Panthers improved to 16-2 overall and 10-0 in the 7A/6A South conference with another sweep of a conference opponent on Thursday at Benton Arena. The Lady Panthers defeated Texarkana 3-0 (25-12, 25-13, 25-14) and have swept every South opponent this season.

Callie Brewer Tabor

Callie Brewer Tabor, 101, of Magnet Cove passed away Oct. 10, 2013. She was born Dec. 30, 1911, in Oden to the late Maudie Jane Abernathy Brewer and Ben F. Brewer.
Callie was a homemaker who loved gardening, quilting and tending her Iris. She was of the Baptist faith. 
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Tabor; a son, Claude Elton Tabor; two brothers, Clarence Brewer and Cleve Brewer; seven sisters, Rubba Brewer, Clara Smith, Bernice Kirtley, Ruth Nichols, Ruby Kirtley, Cleo Morris and Jean Couch; one grandson, three great-grandsons and one great-great-grandson.

Donald Odell Williams

Donald Odell Williams, 49, passed away Oct. 6, 2013. Donald was born Aug. 19, 1964. in Little Rock to Odell and Christine Williams.
Donald worked as a foreman for the Pulaski County Road and Bridge Department.
Donald was preceded in death by his daughter, Samantha Williams.

Michael Ray Williams

Michael Ray Williams, 46, passed away Oct. 6, 2013. Michael was born May 1, 1967, in Little Rock to Odell and Christine Williams. He worked as a mechanic for the Pulaski County Road and Bridge Department.
Michael is survived by his devoted wife of 11 years, Sondra Willfong Williams; three sons, Cody Ray and Jason Michael Williams and Justin Michael Houge; two brothers, Robert Wayne and Victor Paul Williams; and his parents, Odell and Christine Williams, all of Mabelvale. He also had a deceased brother, Donald Odell Williams.

Bomb Threat Lands Hot Springs Man Behind Bars

A call that came into Hot Springs Police Department’s 911 dispatch center landed 54 year old Jeffrey Jay Spahn of Mailey Lane in Hot Springs in jail. Spahn was arrested by US Park Rangers on October 10th after a federal judge signed an arrest warrant charging him with Title 18 USC 844(e) making a threat of false information to the Government.

Freshman Eoff boiling at Purdue

BENTON – To say Austin Eoff is having success his freshman season so far as a Purdue Boilermaker would be an understatement. Eoff, a four-time All-State selection and three-time individual state champion for the Benton Panthers, has taken the Boilermakers by storm this season. Eoff has led Purdue in all three events this season, giving the Boilermakers no worse than a fourth-place finish.

Rosa Etta Like Hensley

Rosa Etta Like Hensley of Hot Springs passed from this world on Oct. 7, 2013, at the age of 97.  She was born Oct. 22, 1915. in Avard, Okla., to the late George Simeon and Nancy Caroline Helton Like.
The family moved to Arkansas in 1923.  Rosa Etta married Julius Festerson Hensley in 1933 and they lived on the Hensley farm in Saline County for more than 55 years until "Jude's" passing in 1988, moving then to Hot Springs. She was a homemaker, worked on the farm and loved woodworking, crocheting, knitting, piecing and quilting quilts.  Rosa was of the Baptist faith.

Betty Potts, 70, of East End went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013. She loved to fish with her friend, Rubel McGhee. She was a member of Sardis United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, R.A. James and Jimmie Lou Graves James.

Samuel 'Sam' Aaron Kitchell

Samuel “Sam” Aaron Kitchell, 27, of Bryant passed away Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013. He was born June 24, 1986, in Little Rock. Sam was a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Bryant. 
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A.D. Dunnahoe of Watson and Preston and Nancy Greer of Rohwer.
He is survived by his parents, Delton and Phyllis Kitchell; two sons, Parker and Preston Kitchell; and a sister, Katie Kitchell, all of Bryant.

Lola Jean Crow Bextel

Lola Jean Crow Bextel, 88, passed away on Oct. 8 2013, at Saline Memorial Hospice House. She was born Feb. 25, 1925. She was a resident of Fox Ridge in Bryant.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Bextel, and her five children, Anita Bitts and husband Don of Golden Valley, Ariz., Andrea Breshears of Bryant, Jack Crow of Sacramento, Calif., Jeffery Crow and wife Patti and April Crow Spaulding and husband Hank of Carbondale, Colo.; 13 grand children, 22 great-grand children and four great-great-grandchildren.
No services are planned.
