Police searching for missing teen

Benton Police Department is seeking community residents' assistance in locating a runaway juvenile, Chelsea Bauer, who recently ran away from her home in Benton and has not been seen since that time.  
Chelsea, 17, is Hispanic and has brown eyes and hair. She is approximately 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighs 140 pounds She was last seen wearing a pink "hoodie"-style jacket, blue jeans and brown slip-on shoes. Chelsea was traveling on foot and is believed to still be in the Central Arkansas area.   

Acclaimed classical guitarist to make return visit to Benton

Classical guitarist Peter Fletcher is returning to Herzfeld Library in Benton as part of a national tour that will culminate at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
The artist has scheduled the local concert for 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 16. The program is open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis.
Fletcher has performed numerous times at the Benton library and always has drawn an enthusiastic audience, library officials said.

Couple camping in Lyle Park arrested for refusing to leave

A couple camping at Lyle Park in Benton failed to leave as instructed by Benton police and now face charges of criminal trespass.
At 10:30 a.m. on March 3, Officer Mike Connell responded to a call from residents in the area who had contacted the police about the situation. Upon arrival at Lyle Park, Connell found a tent with a car parked in front of it and instructed the occupants to step outside and speak to him.
According to the police report, a man, later identified as Landon Miller, eventually "opened the tent flap.”

Bryant PD searching for RadioShack robber

The Bryant RadioShack was robbed at gunpoint Tuesday, and authorities are still looking for the suspect.
Witnesses said the robber, who wore a hoodie and camouflage mask, came into the store and demanded money, according to a news release from the Bryant Police Department.
The RadioShack employee opened the register drawer and the suspect took the cash and fled. Officers searched the area and were unable to locate anyone.
They are searching for a white male estimated to be about 5'10" and between the ages 25 and 30 years old.

Host Panthers take 3rd

BENTON – After defeating Russellville 9-1 in the opening round of the Benton Panther Invitational, the Benton Panthers finished the tournament in third place, losing to North Little Rock 3-0 on Friday, but handling Hot Springs Lakeside 6-2 on Saturday.
The Panthers (2-1) ran into a buzz saw against North Little Rock as starting pitcher Preston Oberling and reliever Spencer Byrd combined to give up one hit against Benton, while striking out 15 Panthers.

Panthers end special year

GREENWOOD – The Benton Panthers fell to the Jonesboro Golden Hurricane 61-51 to end their record-breaking season in the semifinals of the 6A State Tournament in Greenwood on Saturday. The Panthers end the year with a school record 27 wins against just three losses and went undefeated in winning the 6A South conference.

Streak comes to an end

RUSSELLVILLE – The Bryant Lady Hornets softball team saw their 37-game win streak come to an end in the first game of the 2013 season with a 2-0 loss to the Russellville Lady Cyclones on Thursday at Russellville. Bryant has won the past three 7A State Championships and went a perfect 34-0 last season.
Russellville pitcher Andrea Kindrick gave up just one hit to the Lady Hornets (0-1), dominating Bryant on the night.

Lady Panthers end season with loss in quarters

GREENWOOD – The South No. 1 seed Benton Lady Panthers were down 7-0 early and never recovered in falling to a deep East No. 4 seed Greenwood Lady Bulldogs team 53-37 in the second round of the 6A State Tournament in Greenwood on Friday night.
Three different players for the Lady Bulldogs scored the first seven points before Benton senior Madi Brooks took a pass from sophomore Braylee Landreth for a layup for the Lady Panthers’ first points with 2:26 left in the first.

Georgia O. Outlaw

Georgia O. Outlaw, 93, of Benton died March 2. She was born July 16, 1919, in Fordyce. She was a member of Holland Chapel Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, one sister, one son, and one granddaughter.
She is survived by a sister, Norma Hogg; two daughters, Barbara Hesse and husband Brian, Reda Webb and husband Bob; a son Orville Lee Outlaw and wife Maudie; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Daniel Eidt, 34, passed away March 1. He was born Jan. 18, 1979, to William "Bill" and Louretta Eidt in Houston, Texas.
Daniel will be fondly remembered for his cunning wit, verbal bantering, and sharp mind. He loved his children, Drew -Drew, Lexi Lou, and Anna Bug, and delighted in spending every minute he could with them. Daniel was a member of the First Pentecostals of Benton. He cared deeply for people as evidenced by his career choice in the nursing field and his work in recent years as an NA sponsor.
