Pilot of suspected fugitive plane surrenders to authorities, bonds out

April 5, 2013

A man being sought by authorities in conjunction with the theft of an airplane surrendered voluntarily on Friday morning to Saline County officials.
Dennis Hunter of California is being charged with aggravated assault incurred during a stopover in Saline County.
No outstanding warrants or charges from the federal government were found by Saline County authorities at the time of arrest, so after Hunter was charged in Saline County, he was able to be bonded out of jail and released, said Lt. Scotty Courtney of the Saline County Sheriff's Office.

Saline River running high, fast

April 5, 2013

Recent rainfall has left Saline River water levels higher — and faster — than the annual average, according to data from the U.S. Geological Survey. The level usually sits at about 5 feet at the end of March and beginning of April, and today the water level is at 7.61 feet. Last weekend, it topped out at almost 11 feet. Although Saline County is seeing a reprieve from the rain today and through the weekend, more storms are predicted for next week.
