Hot Spring County authorities arrested three suspects this afternoon in connection with the burglary of a Bryant fencing company that occurred about 3 a.m. this morning, leading to a chase and an officer-involved shooting hours later.
Melvin Bell of Texas will be charged with attempted capital murder and commercial burglary, said Lt. Scotty Courtney of the Saline County Sheriff's Office.â€¨
Ezell Brown and Quinton Brown, both of Texas, will be charged with commercial burglary and fleeing, Courtney said.
BENTON â€“ Former Benton Panther first baseman Trey Bishop signed a letter of intent to play for the Arkansas Tech (Russellville) Wonder Boys on Monday afternoon at Benton Arena. Bishop was an All-Conference selection for the 22-5 Panthers, which fell in the semifinals of the 6A State Tournament.
Gary Gene Pitts, 78, of Bauxite passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2013.
He was born July 23, 1934, in Benton to the late Luther Wesley and Winnie Moore Pitts. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Benton and retired from Arkansas Face Veneer Co. after 29 years. Gary loved camping, Nascar, the Razorbacks and his two dogs, Jack and Jill.
Gary was preceded in death by his brother, Billy Bob Pitts.Â Â
Dianne Marie Beadle, 63, of Benton died Saturday, June 29, 2013.
She was born Feb. 7, 1950, to Helen (McKune) Roth and the late Robert Joseph Roth.Â
She was also preceded in death by husbands Franklin Dee Burkett and Robert Lawrence Beadle; and a sister, Donna May Roth.Â
She is survived by her children, Kevin Curtis Burkett, Chris Annette Beason, Steven Matthew Burkett and Brittany Dawn Beadle; her brothers, James Roth and Robert â€śBobâ€ť Roth; and her grandchildren, Clint Curtis Burkett, Marina Sharayah Bolin, Andreanna â€śAndiâ€ť Lee Allen and Carissa Cadence Burkett.
Warren LaNeil Osment Jr., 71, of Benton passed away Monday, July 1, 2013.
He was born May 21, 1942 in Jonesboro. Mr. Osment was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was a graduate of UALR and Little Rock Law School.Â
Mr. Osment was preceded in death by his parents, Warren LaNeil Osment Sr. and Janice Weir Osment; a son, Chris Osment; and a brother, Charles Osment.
Gary Don Henderson, 58, of Alexander passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2013. He was born in Logan County on Jan. 19, 1955, to Archie and Ruby Henderson. Gary was a long-time employee of C & C Commercial Cleaners. He enjoyed drag-racing cars, rock crawling, and spending time with his two miniature horses, Cody and Jazzy. He was loved and will be greatly missed.
Lanie Jennifer Moore, 41, of Bryant died Saturday, June 29.
She was born Feb. 18, 1972, in Fort Worth, Texas. to Thomas Steven and Dianna Summerville Jackson.
Lanie was a wonderful mother and loved her children more than anything.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dustyn Moore.
Louis Aaron Fite, 94, of Benton passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2013.
Cecilia Ann Tittle, 55, passed away June 27, 2013.
Cecilia was born March 5, 1958, in Little Rock to her parents, Cecil A. and Mary Beth Hentschel.
Cecilia was retired from the Department of Human Services, where she had worked for over 28 years.
LITTLE ROCK â€” A group of 11 same-sex couples from Arkansas on Tuesday asked a judge to overturn the state's ban on gay marriage, the latest effort aimed at repealing the amendment after recent U.S. Supreme Court rulings supporting gay couples.
The lawsuit filed in Pulaski County Circuit Court seeks to strike down the constitutional amendment voters approved in 2004 that defines marriage as between a man and a woman. The amendment also bars the state from recognizing same-sex marriages from other states.
