BREAKING NEWS: Suspects shot at by police have been arrested

Hot Spring County authorities arrested three suspects this afternoon in connection with the burglary of a Bryant fencing company that occurred about 3 a.m. this morning, leading to a chase and an officer-involved shooting hours later.
Melvin Bell of Texas will be charged with attempted capital murder and commercial burglary, said Lt. Scotty Courtney of the Saline County Sheriff's Office.

Ezell Brown and Quinton Brown, both of Texas, will be charged with commercial burglary and fleeing, Courtney said.

New Ink: Panther earns big opportunity

BENTON – Former Benton Panther first baseman Trey Bishop signed a letter of intent to play for the Arkansas Tech (Russellville) Wonder Boys on Monday afternoon at Benton Arena. Bishop was an All-Conference selection for the 22-5 Panthers, which fell in the semifinals of the 6A State Tournament.

Gary Gene Pitts, 78, of Bauxite passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2013.
He was born July 23, 1934, in Benton to the late Luther Wesley and Winnie Moore Pitts. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Benton and retired from Arkansas Face Veneer Co. after 29 years. Gary loved camping, Nascar, the Razorbacks and his two dogs, Jack and Jill.
Gary was preceded in death by his brother, Billy Bob Pitts.
