Burn ban issued in Saline County

A burn ban has been issued for Saline County.
The Keetch-Byram Drought Index was at 621 on Sunday, according to the Arkansas Forestry Commission. A KBDI of 600 and above indicates an extremely high fire danger level.

James Timothy “Tim” Collins

July 8, 2013

James Timothy “Tim” Collins, age 57, passed away in his home in Hot Springs, Arkansas July 4, 2013.  He was born January 30, 1956 in Little Rock, Arkansas to George and Doris Collins.  Tim was a member of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church.  He established Wendy’s in Southern Texas and was a previous owner of Backyard Burgers.  Tim also worked for Harley Davidson and loved selling and riding motorcycles.  He was preceded in death by his father, George Collins and his grandmother, Thomasene Caple. 

Thomas Allen Baxley

Thomas Allen Baxley, 77, a lifelong resident of the Sardis community, died Saturday, July 6, 2013, with his family by his side.
He was born in Sardis on Oct. 20, 1935, to the late Milton and Eula Pruett Baxley. He graduated from Sheridan High School in 1954 and then began a lifelong career in the furniture manufacturing business.
He was a member of the Fairview Missionary Baptist Church in Sardis.

Calvin Douglas Phillips

Calvin Douglas Phillips, 101, passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2013, in Mena.
He was born Oct. 21, 1911, in Lillie, La., to the late David Mathew Phillips and the late Sarah Martindale Phillips. He was a longtime resident of El Dorado, a veteran and a supervisor for Monsanto Chemical for many years.
Calvin was a loving father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend to all who knew and loved him.  He will be dearly missed by all.

Lane Andrew Huie

July 8, 2013

Lane Andrew Huie was born in Little Rock on January 28, 1986 to Casey Andrew Huie and Darla Southern Huie.  Lane passed away on July 4, 2013 in Little Rock due to injuries he sustained in an automobile accident. 
Lane graduated from Benton High School where he played football. He attended the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He served as General Manager at the family-owned restaurant, Dizzy’s Gypsy Bistro.

Edgar E. Johnston

Edgar E. Johnston, 69, of Haskell passed away Friday, July 5, 2013. at the Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock.
He was born Sept. 9, 1943 in Ogdensburg, N.Y., to the late J. Edgar and Marjorie Stevenson Johnston.
Ed had retired after working 33 years for Entergy. He also worked for H & R Block as a tax preparer. He grew up on a dairy farm, picked up the nickname “Peanut” and was a state wrestling champ at one time.
