Gerald E. Scott

Gerald E. Scott, 89, of Benton passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2013.  He was born March 13, 1924, in Dillon, Kan.  Mr. Scott was a World War II Navy veteran, a self-employed heavy equipment operator and a member of Zion Lutheran Church. 
Mr. Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Flossie Scott; four brothers; three sisters and one grandson.

Theodore Paul 'Ted' Helmich
Theodore Paul "Ted" Helmich, 74, died Monday, March 25, 2013, at his home in Benton. He was born March 27, 1938, in Benton to Edward and Edna (Hill) Helmich of Benton.
Ted graduated from Bryant High School and attended Arkansas Tech University.  After two years in the U.S. Army as a mechanic, he graduated with honors from the University of Arkansas with a degree in mechanical engineering.  Ted retired from Alcoa after 28 years of service.

Legislative Breakfast set for Friday

The Legislative Breakfast is Friday at 7 a.m. in the cafeteria at Saline Memorial Hospital.
The community will be given a chance to weigh in as legislators recap the last two weeks at the Capitol.

Panthers triumph over Wolves, weather

PEARCY – In nasty weather at Lake Hamilton High School, the Benton Panthers soccer team came away with a come-from-behind 4-3 victory over the Wolves in 7A/6A South conference play on Tuesday night.
“We played very hard in adverse conditions,” Benton Coach Bobby Winn said. “Weather was rainy and in the 30’s.”
The Panthers (5-1-1, 4-1 South)  gave up three goals in the first half, but stuck to the game plan in the second half to come back.

Hornets romp

TEXARKANA – The Bryant Hornets were the recipients of 13 walks and five errors in an 11-1 win over the Texarkana Razorbacks in 7A/6A South conference play on Tuesday in Texarkana. With the 13 walks, the Hornets banged out 13 hits as well.
“They helped us out,” Bryant Coach Kirk Bock said of Texarkana. “They walked 13 of us and they booted five balls. They helped us out a lot.”
Every player in the Hornets’ lineup had at least one hit, with four players getting two hits.

Frank Walter Seaton Sr.

Frank Walter Seaton Sr., 84, of Alexander passed away Monday, April 1, 2013.  He was born Dec. 4, 1928, in Hartford, Conn.
Mr. Seaton was a U.S. Army Veteran and worked for the Arkansas Department of Human Development Services. He was a member of the Bryant Senior Adult Center in Bryant, the Knights of Columbus and of the Catholic faith. 
Mr. Seaton was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Bella Marie Seaton and four brothers, Walter, Eddie, Emil and John Seaton.

Morris C. Green

Morris C. Green, 98, of Benton passed away March 31, 2013.  He was born Feb. 14, 1915, in Cleburne, Texas, to the late Elbert and Lou Morris Green. 
Morris was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Ruth Green; a son, Bill Green; and a daughter, Fran Leavelles.

Paul Eugene Felty

Paul Eugene Felty, age 77, of Paron passed away Monday, April 1, 2013.  He was born July 23, 1935 in the Butterfield Community of Hot Springs County.  Mr. Felty graduated from Malvern High School in 1954, where he played football for the Leopards and was co-captain of the team his senior year.
He was a Mason and a retired school bus driver for Paron School District and North American Rockwell in Anaheim, Calif. 
Mr. Felty was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Colvia Bryant Felty; and a nephew, Lane Felty.

Roy Dean Jackson

Roy Dean Jackson, 60, of Sardis died March 31, 2013.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Wiley and Maggie Durham of Little Rock; his parents, Roy Obid Jackson and Lillie Mae Kesterson of Sardis; and two sisters, Rose Mary Burry and Cynthia Lynn Kesterson.

Larry 'Bones' Windell McKim

Larry “Bones” Windell McKim, 60, of Donaldson passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Veterans Hospital in Little Rock.
Larry was born Sept. 9, 1952, in Malvern, to Windell and Lula Mae Gray McKim.  He attended Ouachita High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1972 to 1976 as a tank driver and sharpshooter.
Larry owned a logging business, worked at Acme Brick Co.. was a regular at the Donaldson Store and of the Baptist faith.
