Lois Tittle, 83, of Benton,passed away March 19, 2013. Lois was born Nov. 26, 1929. in Hot Springs to parents, Earl and Clara Grimmett. Lois retired as an LPTN at Arkansas Health Center. She enjoyed reading and traveling.Â
Lois was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 32 years, Reed Tittle; and her sisters.
Narrie Adele Hulsey, 92, of Benton passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2013. She was born Sept. 12, 1920. in Benton.Â
Mrs. Hulsey retired from the Benton Services Center as a dietitian and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she attended the Ruth Sunday School Class.Â
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Lillie Wilson; her husband, Carmon Hulsey; a daughter, Charlotte Freeze; two grandchildren, Chris and Craig Ratliff; two brothers, R.B. and Rodney Wilson; and a sister, Bonnie Faye Vandegrift.

TAMPA, Fla. – After splitting their first two tournament games in the Tampa Bay Spring Training Tournament on Monday, the Bryant Hornets defeated Poly Prep (NY) 4-0 and Lutheran South (Mo.) 14-7 on Tuesday. The Hornets will play four more games, two on Thursday and two on Friday, in Tampa before heading back to Bryant.
In their first game on Tuesday, the Hornets (9-5) received a three-hit, complete-game shutout from sophomore pitcher Jason Hastings. He struck out five and walked three.
“He was solid,” Bryant Coach Kirk Bock said. “He did a really good job. He had a good day.”
HOT SPRINGS, AR (Thursday, March 21, 2013) – Oaklawn has postponed all Infield activities until Saturday, March 30, including the picnic blanket giveaway, due to the heavy rain and unseasonably cold temperatures in the forecast for this weekend. Rain was scheduled to begin in the Hot Springs area late Thursday afternoon and continue through Saturday with temperatures in the high 40s.
Josephine "Jo" Crowson Ashcraft, 83, of Pine Bluff went to her heavenly home on Sunday, March 17, 2013. She was born in Leola on Nov. 26, 1929, to James Franklin "Frank" and Velma Blake Deer Crowson. She grew up in Tull and graduated from Bauxite High School. Jo, Josephine, Mother, Grandma Jo, Aunt Jo, GG, Great Grandmother were all names that her friends and family used often, because Jo was someone everyone loved to be around. She had a way of making others feel special.

The fifth annual Mayor's Easter Egg Hunt in Bryant will be taking place Saturday, March 30, starting at 11 a.m. at Alcoa 40 Park, 1110 Shobe Road.
Sponsored by Bryant Parks and Recreation Department, the event will feature an Easter egg hunt, face painting, bouncy houses, games, prizes and an appearance from the Easter Bunny.
All activities are free to the public.
Preparations are continuing for the annual Easter celebration to be held this coming weekend in Downtown Benton.
The Downtown Benton Association is again hosting the 2013 Saline County Easter Egg Hunt, but residents are reminded that it is being held a week earlier than usual.
All of the are set for Saturday, March 23, coordinator Lisa Baldwin said. Most activities will take place on the lawn of the Saline County Courthouse, she said.

Charles Wayne Allen, 65, a resident of the Fairplay Community near Benton, passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2013.Â
Charlie was born in Malvern, to Clarence and Geneva Allen. He worked for Rock Island Railroad and then spent the next 30 years as a freight broker in the trucking industry.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pope Francis displayed enormous humility when he stood on the balcony of the Vatican this week and broke tradition by asking the more than 150,000 spectators to pray for him and bless him before offering a blessing for them, said the Rev. Father Joseph Ejimofor of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Benton.
Pope Francis also declined to be elevated above the other cardinals in the ceremony and chose the name Francis, which has never been used by a pope before, in honor of St. Francis of Assissi, a lover of the poor.
Benton Utilities has purchased what will be the first city-owned transmission and distribution transformer in its history.
The transformer, which has a capacity of 30 megawatts, is scheduled to be delivered Monday morning to what is to become Benton West Substation on Dale Avenue, according to Terry McKinney, general manager of Benton Utilities.
The total estimated cost of the new Benton West Substation reportedly is $3.8 million.
