The Saline County Library is offering a "Down on the Farm" storytime and crafts session for kids ages 3 to 5. The farm-themed storytime make-and-take farm crafts will be available for all ages from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Boswell Library in Bryant. Call 501-847-2166 for more information.

Buford Hayes Jr., 79, of Bauxite passed away Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013. He was born Oct. 11, 1933, in Vardaman, Miss.
Buford was a retired mechanic for Carter Oil Co. in Benton and a member of West Bauxite Missionary Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Buford Hayes and Ruby Mae Lester Hayes; his wife, Patricia Hayes; and a brother, John Edward Caple.
Robert Ervin Westbrook, 81, of Benton, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013.Â He was born March 6, 1932, in Huff to the late Cleo MacAdams Runyan and Clovis Westbrook.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served with the 26th Regiment Military Police 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, in the American Zone of Occupation at the start of the Cold War from June 1948 to June 1950.
Mildred Inez Evans, 84, of Benton was called to her heavenly home on Sept. 8, 2013.
Inez was born in Nathan on Aug. 5, 1929, to Abrum and Beulah Hadaway. Inez loved her God and her family and they always came first, but after that her next love was golf. She was a member and club champion of the Longhills Ladies Golf Association and also was instrumental in the organization of softball in the Salem community.
Beverly Valine Boswell Mayer of Bryant passed away peacefully Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013.
She was born Sept. 17, 1929, in Little Rock to the late Mabel Lawson and Dean Boswell Sr.
Valine moved to Bryant with her family in November 1929.
She loved Bryant from the bottom of her heart.Â She graduated a year early from Bryant High School in 1946, briefly attended Arkansas State Teachers College and then graduated from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville with a Bachelor of Arts degree in commercial art.
Garlton Adon Carter, 73, of Benton left this world to dwell in the House of the Lord on Sept. 7, 2013.
He was born April 6, 1940, to Ralph and Birgie (Pharis) Carter in Dardanelle. He was a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a man of great faith and will forever be missed.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Suzy (Edwards); his children, Dewayne, Kori, and Brett; grandchildren, Erica, Shawn, Nick, Jake, Dylan, Matthew, Jax, Kennedy, and Emma, as well as five great-grandchildren.Â
Phyllis Ann Bearden, age 63, of Benton died Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, in Little Rock.Â She was born in Malvern on April 5, 1950, to Ralph Parrish and the late Emma Chancellor Parrish.Â She was reared and received her early education in the Malvern School District and graduated Malvern High School in 1968. She later obtained the level of Licensed Psychiatric Technician Nurse II from the Benton Services Center, now Arkansas Health Center.Â She was employed there for 33.5 years.Â Phyllis enjoyed making floral arrangements for weddings and holidays and was a wonderful cook.
The Saline County Court will meet 7 p.m. Monday at the Saline County Courthouse to discuss a resolution that would declare a vacancy in the office of sheriff.
The meeting was originally scheduled for Saturday.
The Benton Junior High Panthers got their first taste of life in new stadium and the outcome was as sparkling as their new home. The freshmen Panthers defeated Sheridan 21-12 and the Benton eight graders won 40-20.
The freshmen Panthers got off to an inauspicious start. Sheridan recovered an onside kick to open the game. The Benton defense stiffened, forcing Sheridan to line up to punt on fourth down. But a fake by McKinley Williams resulted in a 52 yard touchdown for the Yellowjackets. The two-point conversion try failed, but Sheridan led early 6-0.
The Saline County Quorum Court has called a special meeting for Sept. 7 at 2 p.m.
Initial reports indicate that Sheriff Bruce Pennington has submitted a request to retire Oct. 1, as he had originally planned.
The court will be considering a resolution to declare the sheriff's position vacant.
