Jane Parriett, 78 of Leola passed away July 12, 2013.Â She was born Sept. 8, 1934, in Prattsville to the late George and Mary Stroup Parriett.Â
In addition to her parents, Jane was preceded in death by her sisters, Nora McCool and Dorothy Benbrook.
Survivors are her sisters, Christine Spurlin of Benton, Myrtle McCool of Leola and Pearl Jackson of Little Rock; and her caregiver, Mary Watson.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Brush Creek Cemetery in Leola. Ashby Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is set from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.Â
Sadie Pauline Adams, age 87, of Benton, passed away Thursday, July 11, 2013.Â She was born Dec. 1, 1925, in Jonesboro. Mrs. Adams was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mattie Hunter and a son, James Earl Norris.
She is survived by her husband, Doris Bud Adams of Benton; a daughter, Emma Allard of Cleburne, Texas; five grandchildren, Tammy Jo Allard Sandifer, Pamela Marie Allard Weaver, Cynthia Lynn Allard Lucland, John Francis Allard Jr. and James Donald Allard and wife Yvonnie; 11 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren.
Dr. Gerald Thomas Wilson, 82, of Benton passed away on July 11, 2013, at Saline Memorial Hospital.
Gerald Wilson, born and raised in Jonesboro and a Navy veteran of the Korean War, was a 1958 graduate of Arkansas State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. He later graduated from Abilene Christian University with a Master of Science degree in physiology, and received a Ph.D. in genetics from Kansas State University.
Thomas Patrick Connell, 66, of Benton passed away July 9, 2013 at his home with his family by his side.
Mr. Connell was born July 6, 1947, in Fayetteville to the late Edward Noone and Elizabeth Dodd Connell.Â He had retired after working 40 years for Centerpoint Energy in Little Rock as a warehouse foreman.Â He graduated from University of Arkansas in Fayetteville with a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture engineering.Â Â
In addition to his parents, two brothers, David and Edward "Buddy" Connell, preceded him in death.
Patsy Jean Wallace, 70, of Benton, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2013.Â She was born April 22, 1943, in Bald Knob.Â Mrs. Wallace worked for many years in the kitchen at the Arkansas Health Center and was a member of the Avilla Community Garden.Â Patsy always maintained an unshakable faith in her God.Â
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Alma Mildred Bone.
Donald L. Chew passed away on July 6, 2013, of natural causes at Otterbein Retirement Home in Lebanon, Ohio.
Don was born and raised in Atchison, Kan., on Feb. 15, 1925.
He graduated from Atchison High School and Kansas State University. He served in World War II in the 8th Air Force on a B-29. He was an outstanding baseball player for the Atchison Colts and some semi-pro teams. He was asked to play for several pro teams, but chose to go to college instead.
He married Audrey Harris of St. Joseph, Mo., on July 13, 1947.
Launa Rae Hearn, 74, of Bryant passed away on July 8, 2013.
She was born Dec. 4, 1938, to the late Buster Amos Dunn and Lola Norene (McKinsey) Dunn in Bradford.
Launa was a schoolteacher who retired from the Bryant School District after many years of service. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Bryant.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Rozella McGehee.
LITTLE ROCKâ€” The Arkansas State Claims Commission has voted to dismiss a $1 million wrongful death claim against Arkansas State University by the parents of a student who died after being shot at his campus apartment.
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported Saturday that the claims commission voted unanimously to reject the claim by Jerlene and Elijah Gilmore of Helena-West Helena.
A woman accused of fleeing from police has been charged with multiple crimes.
Heidie Taylor, 48, is charged with fleeing by vehicle, unauthorized use of another person's property to facilitate a crime, fleeing on foot, refusal to submit to arrest, driving on suspended license, littering, criminal mischief, DWI-drugs and reckless driving.
At 1:19 a.m. today, Benton Police Officers were notified about a possible intoxicated driver in the area of the Interstate 30 North Service Road near the 116 Exit.
The Benton Police Department has released to the media reports involving an incident where Saline County Sheriff Bruce Pennington was arrested for public intoxication and resisting arrest.
In the reports, police say Pennington swung at officers.
