James Martin Hopper, 78, of Little Rock, passed away June 25, 2013.  He was born Jan. 31, 1934, in Leola to Pete and Lucille Hopper, the superintendent of schools and the postmaster.

Lt. Freddie Marion 'Jack' McKinley

June 28, 2013

Lt. Freddie Marion "Jack" McKinley, who was retired from the Arkansas State Police, passed away on June 23, 2013, at the Murfreesboro Rehab and Nursing Center.
He was the son of W.H. "Bud" McKinley and Rosa Brewer. He was a graduate of Fountain Lake School, attended flight school and became a flight instructor and commercial pilot. He retired from the Arkansas State Police in 1980 after 32 years of service.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Murfreesboro and a deacon emeritus. He was a member of Whittington Lodge 365 and a 32nd-degree Mason.

Julie Ann Reinmiller Hughes

Julie Ann Reinmiller Hughes, 55, of Benton died Monday, June 24, 2013.  She was born March 23, 1958, in Elizabeth, NJ.
Julie graduated from Benton High School in 1976 and was an accountant for Entergy Arkansas Inc. for over 30 years.  She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Benton.
She was preceded in death by four children, Anne Marie, and triplets Andrew, Brendan, and Christopher, one sister, Janet Bailey; and her ather-in-law and mother-in-law, Dallas and Erma Hughes.

Adriel Leigh Taylor

Adriel Leigh Taylor, 45, of Benton passed away June 24, 2013.  She was born Jan. 13, 1968, in Little Rock to  Donald Clifton and Vivian Bryant.
Adriel was a full-time member of Saline Missionary Baptist Church.  She loved her church family and thoroughly enjoyed going to church and learning God’s word.  The Lord was always a full-time member of her home and in her life.  She read God’s word daily.  If you came in contact with Adriel, she was always willing to witness her story regarding her salvation and what eternal life meant to her.

Ruby Wanda Mills

Ruby Wanda Mills, 82, of Benton, died June 24, 2013, at Saline Memorial Hospice House in Bryant.  She was born Sept. 4, 1930, in Stanton, Texas, to the late George Rogers and Afton Ida Alderman.   Mrs. Mills was a member of the River Street Church of Christ and a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 50 years, George W. Mills, and one brother, Tonley Alderman.

Kenneth Taylor Gilbert

Kenneth Taylor Gilbert, 63, of Benton, was born Nov. 2, 1949, and passed away on June 20, 2013. He was of the Southern Baptist affiliation and a member of the 173rd Airborne Alumnus. Kenneth was close to Jesus in his shared love of fishing and carpentry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Charles (Milner) Gilbert and family members, Ruby Davis and Pam Brown.

Beagle-boxer-basset wins World's Ugliest Dog

PETALUMA, Calif. (AP) — A huge-headed, duck-footed mix of beagle, boxer and basset hound was the upset winner at the 25th annual World's Ugliest Dog Contest.

Walle (WAHL-ee), a 4-year-old mutt from Chico, Calif., who was entered at the last minute, was judged Friday as the most unsightly of 30 dogs at the Northern California competition.

"This dog looked like he's been photo-shopped with pieces from various dogs and maybe a few other animals," judge Brian Sobel said.

Catchers, managers and Gold Gloves

Thirteen of the 30 Major League Baseball managers have been catchers in their minor or major league playing careers. Yes, 43 percent of today’s managers are former catchers, with six managers being former outfielders, and five managers who were shortstops in their playing days. I’ve always had an idea of the reasoning of why so many catchers become managers, but former Arkansas Razorback and St. Louis Cardinal three-time winning Gold Glove catcher Tom Pagnozzi simplified it for me.
“Because they’re the smartest baseball players, that’s why,” Pagnozzi joked.

Casey Daryl Hill

Casey Daryl Hill, 27, of Benton passed away Friday, June 21, 2013. He was born March 7, 1986, in Benton, to Doyle Loyd and Mary Etta Hill
He graduated from Benton High School in 2004.  Casey loved to play his guitar and drums.  He played in many local bands.  He was an avid outdoorsman.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping with his friends and family.  One of his many hobbies included taxidermy.  He perfected it and started running his own shop, KC Taxidermy. 
He was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed attending Grape Chapel Church and the Church at Rock Creek.
