Hands-on work provides life skills to special needs students

October 27, 2014

Two hours before The Sifted Flour bakery is scheduled to open on a recent Thursday, two Benton High School students make their way through the doors and clock in on an electronic tablet. They have work to do.

Mason Langley, a senior, and Brooklyn Fiedler, a junior, are part of a community-based instruction class that focuses on life skills for special needs students.

As the day begins, the two wash their hands and grab aprons. According to the chores chart, Mason is supposed to help make bread and Brooklyn is supposed to take care of stickers.
