Betty Jo Kinder

Mrs. Betty Jo Kinder, 69, of London, Arkansas passed away Friday, Nov. 28, 2014. She was born Sept. 21, 1945 in Shaw, Mississippi to Garvin and Elsie Strickland (Cole).
She married Dale Kinder in Booneville, on April 25, 1970 and they made their home in Traskwood for more than 30 years.
Mrs. Kinder is preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, two brothers and one granddaughter, Cassie.

Harold E. “Hap” Houpt, Sr

Harold E. “Hap” Houpt Sr., passed away on Monday, Nov. 24, 2014. Hap was born on Dec. 25, 1938 in Traskwood.  He was a retired employee of Southern Foods and a Veteran of the National Guard.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Houpt; son, Harold Houpt Jr. and his wife Susan of Randleman, North Carolina; Douglas Michael Houpt of Randleman, North Carolina; brothers, Bill Sheets of Tampa, Florida; Albert Houpt of Benton; James Houpt of Benton; Doug Houpt of Texas; sister, Louise Sanchez of Benton; and granddaughter, Melissa Houpt of Greensboro, North Carolina.

Two people arrested on drug charges

December 4, 2014

A Benton man and woman were arrested on Lillian Street for allegedly being in possession of crack cocaine.

Louis Payne, 58, and Lillie Hill, 57, were arrested in connection with the incident. While serving a search warrant, officers allegedly found 6.2 grams of crack cocaine and items used to package and sell it, said Lt. Kevin Russell, Benton Police Department spokesperson.

They were also charged for the home being within 1,000 feet of a church.
