5 critically hurt after trains collide in Arkansas

WINSLOW — Authorities say two trains have collided in rural northwest Arkansas, critically injuring about five people.

Arkansas Department of Emergency Management spokesman Rick Fahr (fayr) says a passenger train collided with another train Thursday near the town of Winslow, about 175 miles northwest of Little Rock.

Washington County Emergency Management Director John Luther says 37 people were able to walk away from the wreck. Officials say there were a combined 44 passengers and six crew members on both trains.

Ralph Edward Melton, 64, of Bauxite went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wava Jean Melton and William “Bill” Melton.
He is survived by his wife, Denise Melton; two daughters, Angie Tisdale (Greg) and Michelle Bias (Doyle); a son, Michael Melton; a stepdaughter, Lynette Caperell; a stepson, DJ Bayhan; and 10 grandchildren.
Open visitation is set from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, at Mr. Melton's Mars Hill residence.
Arrangements are by Arkansas Funeral Care in Jacksonville.

Ethel G. Brinkley

Ethel G. Brinkley, 96, of Bryant died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2014.  She was born June 2, 1918, in Harrisburg to the late John Truman and Ethel (Hill) Bradley.
Ethel was a licensed practical nurse who retired from Saline Memorial Hospital in 1976 and was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Benton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard L. Brinkley; two brothers; and two sisters.
