Lady Hornet sets new school record

The Bryant Lady Hornets finished in fifth place Friday night at the Russellville Cyclone Relays.

Bryant scored 61 points to finish behind team champion Lake Hamilton (80 points), North Little Rock (78), Fort Smith Northside (72) and Cabot (72). In all, 23 schools competed.

Highlighting the Lady Hornets’ performance was sophomore Alexis Royal, who scored a team high 30 points. Royal set a new Bryant school record with her winning leap in the triple jump. 

Hornets finish 7th at Cyclone Relays

The Bryant Hornets earned a seventh-place finish in the Cyclone Relays at Russellville Friday, earning 47.5 points in the 20-team field.

Fort Smith Southside won the event. 

Troy Smith was the leading scorer for the Hornets, placing third in the high jump (6 feet), fourth in the 300-meter hurdles (41.99 seconds) and sixth in the 110-meter high hurdles (16.28). 

Coach Steve Oury said Smith "has really come on this year in the hurdle races. Coach Keith Dale does a great job working with all of our hurdlers, and Troy has worked extremely hard."

The Crosstown.
That’s the theater in Memphis where my cousins and I saw “Cleopatra” sometime in the 1960s. In a recent column, I mentioned a nameless theater that I could see in my mind’s eye but couldn’t recall.
All I could remember when I wrote the prior piece was that the movie house had a buff brick exterior and that it was near the big Sears & Roebuck store in that part of the city.
