A legislative audit of the 2010 finances of the city of Bryant has been referred to the office of Saline County Prosecuting Attorney Ken Casady.
On Monday, Casady confirmed the accuracy of this statement and said, "It is too early for me to say who might be at fault or if criminal charges will follow, but we are looking into what the audit referred to us."
The Bauxite Lady Miners held the Pulaski Robinson Lady Senators to six points in the second half in defeating them 48-24 in 7-4A conference action on Tuesday at Fred Dawson Gym in Bauxite.
“Defensively, I didn’t think we played bad,” Bauxite Coach Josh Harrison said. “We were out of position a few times, especially in the press. I thought we did a pretty decent job of scrambling and hustling defensively. Out of the press, we had some people out of position and a few people not rotating quick enough. They got a few deep passes and some easy shots there early.”
Bobby Carl Spencer, 76, of Benton, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 10. He was born Sept. 29, 1935, to the late Dennis and Helen (Bryan) Spencer in Benton. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, who loved him dearly. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and taking his dogs, DeDe and Gypsy, to the lake.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Ray Spencer, and one sister, Winnie Spencer.
Joseph Harvey Yielding, 74, of Alexander, passed away Nov. 25, 2011. He was born Jan. 22, 1937, in California. He was a decorated veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a dedicated employee of American Airlines for 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Walker and Ruth Gates Yielding; and two brothers, Cecil and Robert Yielding.
He is survived by his sons, Joe Yielding and Shelby Yielding of Alexander; a sister, Ethel Bodary of Michigan; and a brother, Kenneth Yielding of Michigan.
Sherry Nell Taylor Westerman, 68, of Baton Rouge, La., formerly of Benton, went to be with our Lord on Jan. 6. She was born in Fordyce on Sept. 11, 1943. She was a registered nurse.
Sherry was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Christine and Raymond DeLoach; her father, Waymon Taylor of Benton; her grandparents, Ed and Bessie West of Benton and Robert and Emma Taylor of Dallas County.
Dr. Paul Hogue Jr., 88, of Benton, passed away peacefully on Jan. 9. He was born in Paron on Jan. 4, 1924. to Frank P. Sr. and Lyda Roberts Hogue.Â

Doris L. Hilligas, 80, of Bauxite died Monday, Jan. 9. She was born Aug. 27, 1931 in Fox.
Doris was a homemaker
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Dica Ramsey; and a son, Larry Hilligas.
She is survived by her husband, Earl Hilligas of Bauxite; sthree ons, Bob Hilligas of Bauxite. Steve Hilligas of Arizona and Eddie Hilligas of Bauxite; a daughter, Bonnie Moss of Damascus; a sister, Terri Hess of California; 12 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.Â
Carrol Dee Davis, 59, of Traskwood, went home to be with the Lord Jan. 7. He was born Aug. 4, 1952, in Pine Bluff, to Thomas Davis and Maxine (Davis) Sherrill.
Carroll graduated from Harmony Grove High School and was an employee at Sears for 38 years. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church.
Carroll was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Davis and wife Nora; and two brother-in-laws, Mike Patterson and Tommy Samples.
On Jan. 5 the Bryant City Council voted unanimously to overturn the resignation of the city's finance manager, Gary Hollis, which had been requested by Mayor Jill Dabbs.
The following day, Dabbs hit the airwaves of Central Arkansas to make her case during an interview at a Little Rock radio station.
In addition to Hollis' resignation, Dabbs had asked for and received the resignation of City Attorney Nga Mauhfouz.
Both tendered the resignations on Dec. 30, 2010.

Oscar Lee Lowe, 84, of Benton died Friday, Jan. 6, 2012. He was born Nov. 2, 1927, in Lubbock, Texas. Oscar was retired from Reynolds Metals Co., a Mason of Lodge No. 34 in Benton, and a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
He was a Baptist by faith, but regularly attended Parkview United Methodist Church in Benton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Lowe and Audrey Henry Cook; his wife of 62 years, Bobbie Lowe; a sister, Patricia Ann Cook; and a brother, Billy Joe Lowe.
