Bryant City Clerk race draws two candidates

During early voting for the Nov. 4 general election, Bryant voters will have a choice between two candidates for city clerk — incumbent Heather McKim and challenger Sue Ashcraft.

Early voting will get under way Monday, Oct. 20.

The Saline Courier, on Oct. 13, submitted questions to both candidates at the email address on file with the candidates' paperwork at the county clerk's offices. McKim submitted her answers on Wednesday morning.

A follow-up reminder telephone call was placed to Ashcraft on Wednesday morning, but as of press time, she has not responded.

Marcus Dorsey, 39, of Little Rock has been formally charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death a 20-year-old Benton woman.

Dorsey is accused of driving the U-Haul pickup truck that struck Heather Baker as she walked across the Target parking lot. He also faces charges of leaving the scene of an accident involving personal injury and three counts of criminal mischief, according to court documents filed Wednesday.

•A representative from First Assembly of God on South Arkansas 5 reported fuel was stolen from one of the church's vehicles.
•A woman at Walmart reported money from her bank account was used without her permission.
•Cody Stuckey, 21, of Bauxite was arrested Alcoa Road and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. During the same incident, Justin Scott, 30, of Benton was arrested and charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also named on an active warrant.
