Bryant Hornet shortstop Trevor Ezell received the Arkansas Gatorade Player of the Year award Monday in a brief ceremony at Bishop Park in Bryant. The senior offensive and defensive standout is the second Bryant athlete to receive the award, following former Lady Hornet pitcher Peyton Jenkins.

Teachers: Great role models even in small schools

Teachers oftentimes are society's unsung heroes.
What profession is there that could possibly have a greater impact on more people than the one in which dedicated souls, day after day, year after year, decade after decade, mold young minds?
It's not likely that you will find them listed among the richest men/women in America or included on any similar listing, but teachers are indeed special.
It's good when school districts and various associations honor their teachers for their service and achievements because they are more than deserving.

Bauxite salary cuts on council agenda

Bauxite City Council is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. today to discuss the possibility of lowering the salaries of the mayor and the aldermen.

In an email to the Bauxite alderman, Mayor Johnny McMahan explained that he believes the current salaries for the alderman and for the mayor's office are too high based on the number of residents in Bauxite.

McMahan provided the aldermen with a list of comparable aldermen's and mayors' salaries from similar sized towns in Arkansas.
