Jennifer Ann (Burr) Calkins

Jennifer Ann (Burr) Calkins, 63 of Benton, passed away Friday, November 18, 2011 at Saline Memorial Hospice House.
Jennifer was born August 7, 1948 in Rayville, LA to Modell (Womack) Burr and the late Travis Burr.
Mrs. Calkins was a graduate of Central High School in Little Rock and retired from the Arkansas State Police after 38 years of service. She was a member of Holland Chapel Baptist Church. She was an avid cat lover, and devoted much of her life caring for whatever stray showed up on her doorstep.

Lady Miners go 1-2 in tournament; prepare to face Poyen tonight

The Bauxite Lady Miners dropped their final game of the Alumni Girls Classic 61-51 to the Little Rock Central Lady Tigers on Saturday at Little Rock Hall High School.
Bauxite went 1-2 in the tournament, defeating Lonoke 60-41 in the first round and losing to Little Rock Parkview 69-36 in the second round. Parkview won the tournament when they beat North Little Rock 45-37 in the final.
Parkview went to the 6A State Championship last year and Central lost in the first round of the 7A playoffs last year, so the Lady Miners (2-2) had some tough competition to begin the year.

Larry Robert Hubbard

Larry Robert Hubbard, Sr., 63, of Benton, died Sunday, Nov. 13.  He was born Jan. 17, 1948, in Little Rock to the late Mark and Rosie Lee (Wiggins) Hubbard. 
He was anl employee of Arkansas Face Veneer in Benton for 30-plus years.
He is survived by his wife, Lindell (Marshall) Hubbard; 13 children; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several siblings.
Funeral service is scheduled for noon, Saturday, Nov. 19, at Peaceful Haven Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kendall Marshall officiating.  Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Gary Lynn Owens

Gary Lynn Owens, 45, of Bauxite passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 15, at his home in Bauxite. He was born May 8, 1966, in Benton.
He was a former employee for the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department and a member of Trinity Baptist Church. 

Charles Kirkpatrick

Charles Kirkpatrick, 76, of Glen Rose passed away Nov. 15 at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock.  He was born Dec. 6, 1934, in Malvern, the son of Ted and Zona (King) Kirkpatrick.
Charles served in the U.S. Air Force for four years and retired from Missouri Pacific - Rock Island Railroad.
He has been the caretaker for Fairplay Cemetery for more than 20 years.
He was of the Baptist faith.
Preceding him in death are his parents; his brothers, Glen and Royce Kirkpatrick; and a sister, Vera Thacker.

Mary Catherine Smith

Mary Catherine Smith, 86, of Benton, passed away Monday, Nov. 14.  She was born March 2, 1925 in Benton.
Mrs. Smith was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church and a homemaker.  She was preceded in death by her parents, T.J. and Lena Mae Runyan; her husband, Jack Smith; and her brother, Joe Runyan.

James Parvin Teague

James Parvin Teague, 71, of Bismarck passed away on Nov.12, with his family by his side.  James was born on March 28, 1940 in Hot Springs to the late Parvin and Marie Teague.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and tinkering on motors.  His most treasured times was time spent with his family.

Lady Miners resume play in Alumni Classic tourney

The Bauxite Lady Miners resume play in the Arkansas Girls Alumni Classic at Little Rock Hall High School tonight. The Lady Miners will play the Little Rock Parkview Lady Patriots in the second round at approximately 7 p.m. tonight.
Bauxite (2-0) defeated the Lonoke Lady Jackrabbits 60-41 in the first round of the classic on Monday, while Parkview (1-0) beat Cabot 64-60.
Lady Miners’ senior forward Alaina Crouse leads the team in scoring for the first two games with a 17.0 point-per-game average and is 9 of 12 (75 percent) from the 3-point line.

3 Lady Hornets extend softball career

Three Bryant Lady Hornet softball players all signed letters of intent to play at their respective colleges late Thursday morning in front of about 150 people in Love Auditorium on the Bryant High School campus.
The three players, Peyton Jenkins, Kayla Sory and Jessie “The Beast” Taylor, could have had their own separate, special days to sign their letters, but the old friends wouldn’t think of it.

Gabriel Eiathen Winters

Gabriel Eiathen Winters, infant son of Joseph Blake and Casondra Renee (DeLoach) Winters, died on Friday, Nov.11.
He is also survived by a brother, Noah; his grandparents, Gene Winters, Cheryl Winters, and Georgia DeLoach, all of Benton, and Mark DeLoach and Teresa DeLoach of Georgia; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral service is scheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, at Peaceful Haven Funeral Home with the Rev. Vance Nutt officiating.
